Although I have gone off Bond films fer quite some time, like many other kids, I was absolutely mad fer it as a wee lad. It probably has a lot to do with why I love cars, especially the exotic variety.
Personal fave? Has to be the fooking Lotus Esprit.
Go on, I dares ye to watch this & not feel like a kid again. Fooking brilliant, so much so that I might jut go watch the latest Bond flick just to catch a glimpse of some nice shiny metal on wheels.anfield devoteehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13320041467571091898noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7905869950878202286.post-79175006882364071112012-11-05T04:45:00.001+08:002012-11-05T05:01:10.442+08:00In Thrash We Trust!
Many people are constantly surprised that I is not very well-travelled at all, given that I had the privilege of an overseas education. No euro-railing malarkey or back-packing across strange lands fer me.
It was a simple choice back then. With a limited budget, I had to choose - sight seeing as a gawking tourist or go about experiencing me fave thrash metal bands first hand. From numerous gigs in sweaty underground clubs to collecting the entire discography of various obscure outfits. Me dad, even then, is well aware of me fanaticism fer record collecting & I was free to indulge so long as I came back with the requisite qualifications.

Watching the above documentary sure brought back a whole load of memories & certainly underlined that I had made the right fooking choice to thrash out. Although I have missed important gigs recently (Death Angel, DRI, Soulfly etc), at least I can say I have seen many of the classic bands in their prime.
I own many of the LPs highlighted in the vid above & still regularly play metal EXTREMELY LOUDLY!

The spirit of metal informs much of me daily existence - from having a non-conformist attitude to belatedly learning how to play bass guitar. This music still retains the ability to make this old uncle feel young at heart.

That alone is fooking priceless . . .anfield devoteehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13320041467571091898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7905869950878202286.post-7231244292243391172012-09-24T15:30:00.001+08:002012-09-24T15:30:07.026+08:00Emporio Metallica

Really needed a good dose of humour today. Saw this & thought I'd share this pix with the rest of ye metalheadz out there.
Pix might be old but still retains its mirthful qualities.
Great caption.
Have seen this with various other captions as well. Examples include 'Enter Blandman' & 'The Shorts That Should Not Be'.
Anyone else wanna have a go?

It was a warm up show at the Uni's student union hall before they went on a full length tour.

Me was shitting meself when I got to the venue coz there was a whole row of choppers parked outside & an even larger crowd of drunk, belligerent bikers inside the hall. Fer the life of me, cannae remember much of the support act (Xentrix?) apart from the fact that the boisterous crowd rained plenty of half-empty plastic pint cups at them, some probably filled with piss.

Wot I do remember was seeing a bunch of other Malaysian students cowering in another corner. All identifiable in our standard Metallica tees. One dude ran over, introduced himself & suffice to say we are still good mates two decades down the line!

Wot I also remember was Lemmy marching on stage after the hapless support band had finished & coolly declared "one more fooking beer cup & we're not fooking playing . . ." Somehow the crowd got the message & Motorhead lauched into their now-legendary, full on assault of the senses.

Bomber. We are The Road Crew. Overkill. And, of course, Ace of Spades. Ye names it, they played it. Bowel-loosening LOUD. Now, I is no shrinking fooking violet when it comes to volume but me ears were fooking ringing fer a week after the gig. Ears were also bleeding when I saw them on tour again & then I read in the papers that the shows had made the Guinness Book of Records fer LOUDEST shows that year.

I also remember being pummelled in the back from some giant ogre who was off his fooking face during that first gig. By now, me had been separated from me new-found Malaysian friends. But sensing me distress (I is kinda small), a bunch of bikers grabbed hold of me denim jacket, pulled me of the floor & said to the drunk cunt who was pushing everyone "ye touches our friend here again & we gonna fooking kick the crap outta ye!" Cool or wot? After that I felt like a tai kor with me biker henchmen.

These fond memories were triggered after reading a special edition of Classic Rock magazine commemorating the launch of Motorhead's latest LP as well as their long career. Fan or not, it is a fooking great read. Plus ye gets a cool metal Motorhead badge to pin on yer jacket/workstation.

Have also read plenty of good stuff about the movie above & can anyone please tell me where I can me grubby hands on a copy?

In the meantime, everyone should enjoy this band while they are still around. Go out buy their CDs & petition fer a local concert organiser to bring here to these shores!

Long live Motorhead!anfield devoteehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13320041467571091898noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7905869950878202286.post-59990562356091010352012-04-13T16:22:00.003+08:002012-04-13T16:37:39.283+08:00Comical . . .<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgje4F6wXwRxj2Wrf0ETwm29EGYqWn1y28ZStOKgb5OLsOduPKlSflyeZI1iicZTgGlulTFlB5KFtYvNdYgNr4LQ0Ibsz8-FBYLT1H2LQf04To7JCRwqRjq_TqBSkbhXjasgKwJCaMFgaY/s400/comixb0413.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730797974583841442" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 350px; height: 242px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxZ67A-pXGOwZOqElj1wW7r7Le5xVNO9xeuu6zRovjZbR0T7ZsQwMhA4Ta3S7_uJE0lCSufnWn0ZAvol3lqpXYiRAcvQO0QAK0-0z2sjlGdFNXI_EJ0Z8NA8CUu5DaKP-A4mZuoC1NzPE/s400/comix0413b.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730797973985695538" />

When yer administration is bogged down by scandals & yer credibility is at an all-time low, wot do ye do?

That's right, circulate an amateur-style comic depicting The Great Leader in blue fooking tights & having the ability to fooking fly.

WTF???

Insulting one's intelligence is one thing but the level of denial & delusion is rather quite frightening. And my word, wot a fooking trip it was. A noir thriller set in Hong Kong/Macau featuring a French crooner (Johnny Halliday) in the lead role, now that's wot ye calls film making with balls.

Plot may be a tad simplistic but its good enough to keep ye glued to the screen. The stylistic floursishes are plenty & some are just bordering on cinematic genius. Stand offs are full of tension & gun fight scenes are turned into works of motion picture art with clever use of shadow & light.

French dude flies into Macau after finding out his daughter's family has brutally murdered by mysterious trio of assassins & swears revenge. As a stranger in a strange land & suffering from memory loss (due to a bullet lodged in his brain), Halliday gets nowhere in his initial quest. But he then chances upon another trio of hired guns just they are leaving the scene of the crime & makes them an offer they cannae refuse.

Some reviewers & fans of To feel the film suffers because Johnny Halliday is a poor replacement fer the legendary Alain Delon fer which the role was originally written fer. But as far as I is concerend that's Delon's loss coz this is pure cinematic gold. And if ye is fan of film noir, this is pretty fooking fine way to spend an hour and half of yer time.anfield devoteehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13320041467571091898noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7905869950878202286.post-57628272752066239722012-02-15T16:42:00.005+08:002012-02-15T16:50:42.858+08:00Valentine's Day . . . All dem ye, didnae & cannaes isn't me thinking me is some fooking gwailo. Though Shanks had left by the time became a Kopite, listening to his interviews were nothing usch of awe inspiring (see above).

Gone but never forgotten.

From The Telegraph

Bill Shankly was speaking and Cally was spellbound by his master’s voice all over again.
Here was a newly unearthed old cassette recording of Shankly holding court in one of his last interviews, responding at 67 to a question about whether there were any mistakes he had regretted during his great career. “No,” he had scolded his questioner.

“I don’t call them mistakes, never mistakes! That’s too negative. I call them ‘happenings’. Aye, you have to learn from ‘happenings!’”

Callaghan could only look and smile at Ian St John, Chris Lawler and Ron Yeats. Ha! As if Shanks would ever have admitted to fallibility!

“Eerie. You could feel the same aura, how he compelled you to listen when he spoke,” reckoned Callaghan. “It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, like he was there in the room with us.”

But then maybe Shankly is still with us all. The spirit of the extraordinary people’s manager who took Liverpool FC from a nowhere club to global phenomenon largely through the sheer galvanising force of his personality and footballing passion seems to be more all-pervading by the year, reckons Callaghan.

“His values and what he stood for only seem to get more precious, more important to people here.”
Saturday’s Merseyside derby comes in the week of the 30th anniversary of his death and Karen Gill has, as ever, received hundreds of e-mails, texts and letters celebrating the memory of her granddad. From New Zealand to Mauritius and, yes, even back to Everton.

“I get more every year from all over the world,” she says, overwhelmed at how the cult just grows. “I don’t know why? Maybe, he symbolises good times, positive things about Liverpool. It’s a unique phenomenon.”
At her home in Greece, she reads from the tribute the Liverpool Echo offered on his death. “Shanks was not just a soccer genius, a charismatic, inspirational force.

"He won Cups and titles, yes, but he also won the hearts of men, women and children the world over. He walked with the high and the mighty but was never deluded by grandeur.

"His love was rooted deeply among the ordinary folk of Liverpool. He enriched the city immeasurably.”

A city, mind, not just a club. How astonishing, thinks Karen, that 30 years on, he still keeps enriching.

She was only 16 at the time and, to her, he was just the lovely, gruff, storytelling grandad who was so obsessed with the game that when the local kids came round with a football after Sunday dinner to ask if “Mr Shankly can come out to play”, even at 65 he just couldn’t say no. Of course, he had to be on the winning side, too!

On the day of his funeral, when she saw the unbelievable crowds lining the route from his home in Bellefield Avenue to the church, she began to truly comprehend what he meant to Liverpool.
“Including plenty who were wearing Evertonian blue,” she recalls.

Remember the fabled Shanklyism: “If Everton were playing at the bottom of my garden, I’d draw the curtains”?
Well, Karen relates how, actually, he had respect for the old enemy. When he took his dog for a walk, it was usually down to the nearby Everton training ground and he even got physio treatment there.

“Respect, but he still loved to beat them!” she smiles. And, of course, they made a perfect punchline for a bloke with the timing and delivery of a top stand-up comic.

Today, Karen is the chair of the Liverpool FC supporters commission, representing all fan bases and designed to give a direct line to the club’s new owners.

“In this day of corporatisation of football, at least there’s an indication from the club that they do care about supporters and I’d like to think that has stemmed from my granddad. For me, this feels like a chance to do something in his footsteps. It makes me proud.”

Next Friday, extracts from that cassette tape of him being interviewed by former headmaster Frank McFarlane, the recording which has transfixed Callaghan and co at rehearsal, will be interspersed with the four players giving their memories in a special “Bill Shankly Anniversary Show” at Southport Theatre.

The show is written by John Keith, who had the privilege of hearing Shankly’s wit and wisdom at Anfield on a daily basis as the Daily Express’s Merseyside man.

For five years now, it has played to full houses from Norway to Ireland and Keith notes: “We do get a lot of Evertonians coming too. They say ‘we hate Liverpool, but we love Bill Shankly!’ You see, he transcended the game.”

It is as the inscription on the base of the statue of the scarf-wearing Shanks, which guards Anfield with bronze arms outstretched like some angel of the north, puts it with perfect simplicity: “He made the people happy”.
And, to this day, the very thought of him still does too.anfield devoteehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13320041467571091898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7905869950878202286.post-46424742225842331522011-09-27T13:40:00.004+08:002011-09-27T13:48:40.553+08:00Stylo Milo<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6sgZANXc7YWf1MXCDqGPtYwhG1UdKf3bzFQuG99lcA6uwFjQRTumySwH65FZFejfRpomG3CL5yUWXJ7YIl9uM0qaQ_E2A9xOKENRxk-ea4Cai-sFo_y8fhHZgLRGkLGjI7rd7CHGizRo/s400/BC+Rich+Mockingbird+bass+MIJ.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5656910241205722194" />

Apologies to anyone still reading this blog fer the infrequent updates.
