Lighters Aloft! (Scorpions: Gold Ballads)

Don't fooking deny it. Whether yer a death metaller, thrasher, black metal face painter or even dyed-in-da-wool poonk rawker, chances are some point in yer misguided adolescence you have held that lighter aloft whilst proudly belting out one of dem Kraut rockers famous ballads.

Don't quite know what came over me but as me was pondering what musical morsel me should post here fer the weekend, strains of Always Somewhere started playing in me brain's jukebox.

If yer too cynical to enjoy a bit of rock jiwang, then you've lost a slice of yer soul me friend . . . Enjoy yer weekend!

pps: This posting is dedicated to the older dudes (Mozzer, Kerpov, Rajan, Premo et al) & me'd love to hear yer fave memories of listening to the Scorps. Please leave yer tear-stained nostalgic posts in comments box.

ppps: Below is the vid fer youngsters unfamiliar with the joys of Krautrock . . .

Robot man,Speedy is scoming,,steamrock fever...and she's a man and he's a woman...

AD: Who the fook you calling older dudes??

Anyway, for me, scorpion reminds me of my school days... i almost remember every mini bus playing scorpions on their radio.

Also days of hanging out in Sg. Wang PLaza after school with all the Mat Rocks....sigh.

muahahaha...i am so with you man. and i have no qualms to admit i had Scorpions' black beg gantung, and not to mention countless of their greatest hits outing, which basically featured the same list of tracks..haha...still loving you is my personal fav, that being the theme song for me and me first ever girlfriend. you're right la boss, didnt realise it till now, am part of the old dudes.

Little trivia-Scorpions was Nirvana's kris Novoselic's first ever concert he attended.

ma mind is blank: totally like a screwdriver in boltless screw blank with the only respite bein'...some some tidy music goin on, a pirated copy of the who's singles to be exact. cheap, cheap only 9.90. still though you're right, it's still beladhi expensive than downloading it :)
never really managed to hear most of their quality output...save for you know the usual fling of "oh yeah the who - my generation / pinball wizard...i know 'em..not bad" to sound all who-ishly feedbackish..mwahhahhahha

but hang on...heyy..hEYYYY...HEYYEYEYY
skorrrrrpppionnnnngggggssss
braderrr..wa cakaaaappp lu...skorppppioonnn :))

*moz dones meine-ish leather cap* (not to be confused with anything the blue oyster cult would wear..or even worse..them "Y-AM-I-SO-GAY" bellowin' village twats.)

now, where shall we start, cause thing is you have inadvertently ripped right through..a whole tightly capped molotov cocktail of memories...mwahhahha...truth is i dun really no where to statr...but it basically was a grower...er..that it didn't sound right..it grew one me.

see thing is..i started of diggin' off..what some may classify as soddy poppyrock...yu'know the usual shrieky tight crotched andro-spandex fetishists...but then..i went throught this..uh..probably deplorable now..."AKU PUNK SIAL!!!!" phase..."elehh skorpppion koonnooon..baliklllla weyyy..poserrrrrrr..."..mwahhahahahah...y'know the usual crap that happens when i discovers something so different, fresh and moving at that tender (uh..can say tender la) impressionable age...basically
reading the riot act
on anything fallibly commercial and er..
"put-on"
nothing wrong with it, its a phase i suppose..no...that's not really true is it? in fact to this day, i still harbour..and manifest those sentiments in more ways that one..a case in point..that silly footie team i still support..*sigh*.sorry sorry, back to the scorpions..now scorrp..to slurp
by dribble back in..is one of them
bands..well yu hear 'em and yu know its them.
they've got their sound, unique like a label and trademark. and i'm not even talkin about the man's vocals...even when the music starts...yu could sense that it's a scorps track..and yu could choose to cringe or grin like a breast-eyed teenager...but here's the thing, they've got too many supa-gluey tunes to top it off, to deny anyone from claimin..it's them..and that..well fer me at least..is
something that deserves a nod of the hat.
and another fact - stuff like rock yu like a hurriance still sounds..erhm..today.

things that make yu realise...it's uhmm.. not easy to do....not shy to admit it now. i did and do have a soft spot for them..

how la..not to start nodding yer head....and playin' yer broomstick airguitarss..when words like
"heerrrreee i YAAMMMMMMM...RAWWWKKKK YAAAA LIKE AAA HURRRIKKKANANNNEEE" in accented yinglish comes on...
how not to - especially after a few beers?

with that i'm gonna tie down my blethering for now. fave tracks chief:
1.rock ya like a hurricane;
2. is there anybody there - not sure if i got the name correct;
3. still loving yu;
4. wind of change (but of courseee la...now equivalent to rhinestone cowwbhooyyy as a pub-singalong..heee hehee)
5...one more can't remember..but i know the tune..

dude, now that i think of it..these dudes must have been for a long aeons oridhii...sheesh and all the ageleess leatherr..mwhahahha

geez, feeling agewarp...like some dude who's got a back, i used to have a pencil case with a silly sticker on it...mwhahahaha

later dude. and thanks again.

appreciatively,
moz.

achilles: Erm . . . apologies to "All the Young Dudes" . . . especially those who live in a time warp where Dio & Motley Crue are still "it" . . . hee hee . . .

Kerp: Maybe Kurt would still be with us if Nirvana were a leather-clad cock rock outfit . . .

Moz: Thanx fer a classic Moz rant . . . Great stuff. Still stick by me original assesment that yer the closest we've got to William Burroughs & his stream-of-consciousness literary prose. Genius la you dude. Take a bow, Mozzer!

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

afif: At least, its settled one way or another. Besides, there was a serious lack of suitable candidates.

Nay comment on the Scorpions or is this another band BEFORE yer time?
