Not-so-fast & Furious!

Despite having been interested in cars fer a long time, me has never been active in any motoring club. But this morning, wifey & meself made the effort to roll out of bed fer our maiden Ulu Yam run. Don't know why, but the Italian bug has bitten hard & has certainly given a fresh twist to weekend activities (goodbye lingering hangovers, hello teetotal morning drives!).

Bout 20 other enthusiasts (or lunatics depending on yer standpoint) gathered at Batu Caves fer the flag off & we were soon to experience yet another glorious chapter in this so-called midlife crisis of mine. The twisty, bendy B-roads leading to Ulu Yam certainly makes fer challenging driving & with most of these guys seasoned veterans of the route & having fooking throttle-heavy feet, it was quite the adventure especially fer novice (& conservative) drivers like meself!
But hey, as the participants were keen to stress, biar mati eksyen, jangan mati accident. Safety first & we was repeatedly reminded to enjoy ourselves & to drive at our own pace. Easier said than done when most of the cars start zipping past ye & disappearing off into the horizon!
Pix above demonstrate the quirky demands of our beloved rides as most took the scheduled breaks to give the engines a little breather. Don't really think ye sees the Porche/Beemer/insert-appropriate-reliable-marque having fag breaks with their fooking hoods up! But therein lies the charm of these wonderfully idiosyncratic machines. Unreliable they may be & even expensive to maintain, there's something bout them Italian breeds that just makes us obsessive (think Cameron Diaz in Something About Mary & ye gets the picture).

Me has longed heard of Italian car owners waxing lyrical about their rides despite spending most of their time in garages & have often wondered wot is it bout these cars that engendered such fervent passion & pride. This trip has made it even clearer. Despite the mystery "sounds" that emanate from various crevices, the dodgy temp gauge ("how hot was yer car?" was an oft-asked question during the run) & being at the arse end of the contingent, me still emerged feeling exhilarated, thrilled & pleased-as-Willie-fooking-Wonka-in-the-choc-factory.

Fun, camaraderie & the simple pleasure of taking yer ride out on some nice winding route. Fooking brilliant!

Loki: Heavy nite? That's why couldn't wakey wakey this am or was it because ye had a sweet young thingy in between yer sheets & ye thought . . . ahhh, fook this ulu yam drive?

wing: Even in yer bravo, sudah mayat laju ohhh. If upgrade to coupe, fuyoh . . .

stevo: Was told ye is one of those who try to defy laws of gravity during these runs. True or false?

senorita: Go buy a budget Italian ride & join us next time?

Hey bro, it was great having you with us and ur wifey!

We are glad that you had fun and we shall look forward to more!!!

At today's run, most were going slower as the roads were pretty wet and slippery from last night's rain. I tell you, the guys usually go faster! :P

Btw, I like ur wifey's shoes wei! Bright yellow and so matching with the Coupe! :D

anfield devotee said...

nt: Ha ha! Dem shoes, yeah, we got it so they matched her ride.

Even faster? Me thinks me needs to go fer some refresher driving course la . . . very da slow already.

And to think ye were ways ahead of the pack in a selsepseed. Mind boggles at wot ye'd be capable of behind a manual six-speeder!!??!!

Bro, things you need :

1)Speed driving lessons
2)New T-shirts
3)Some muscles to go with those sleeveless T's! (Cue Achilles!)

Love your write-up! But will need more convincing for me to get one!

Achilles: hee hee. no la chief. that would require some strenuos bonkin' on my part, of which, i have had not much of...of late. :)

have been headin' up there since i was..erhm..seth's age, when believe it or the river runnin by the side was actually clear and good enough for a bath to clean up for a bath.

as a result, it's almost become an annual seasonless pilgrimage of sorts for me la; with no regards to any positions of the moon or the sun. now, now,..sadly have not been staunchly religious...but man, i gotta tell ya..

the place, that temple has something about it which i can quite put my finger on mate...something which i never felt in most other joints..except probably in st.annes. so whenever i get really farked up in the head, or i owe somethin' to THE BOSS there...will slide on up drop-gear style albeit pathetically in auto "D"-"1"-"2" mode..then this unexplainable calm sets it out. i thrash it out there introspectively, and believe it or not..things seem to have a way of unknotting itself in the due course of time.

have seen stuff happen short of miracles. call me ridiculously shortsighted. i call it a miracles because am groping fer logic to fit the jigzaws in.

have a feelin' the baby will arrive real soon. stand reassured. seems to have a proven track record, with the many others that have put in a request. one thing though, if you have made a vow of some nature in return i.e. cocunuts, contribution of food or something of that nature make SURE
yu get around to it...i missed once, made a wrong turn did not sit in well.

okay just wanted to share that with you.

a mazda 6, coupe, storm, and a put-putting sayaanakjapano nissan to makan asap and burn the clutch soon? yee haw.

appreciatively,
moz.

p.s....unless of course there is a heineken-spawned baby somewhere that i do not know of...

mozHASturnedINTOaMartian said...

i meant to say...a heiny-spawned baby belonging to me that i do not know of.

mozzer: That list should read, mazda 6, triton & TWO coupes . . . (*evil laughter*) . . .
