Incredible . . . but apparently true!

Its the silly season of January sales, so sorry as me indulges in yet another footie-related posting. Am sure many of you had read about nine-time European champions Real Madrid's supposed interest in signing Anfield misfit Jermain Pennant (in pix extreme right). Incredibly he turned it down as the wages were not up to his high expectations.

Today, flipping thru the rumour mill online . . . BUGGER ME! Apparently, seven-times European champions AC Milan want the Afro-ed wanker . . . sorry, winger.

Am fooking bamboozled. Fooker canna even get on the bench at Anfield & he is being courted by two of the BIGGEST names in European footie. Are we missing something?

Someone please, please explain to me what these clubs see in this guy? Fooking hell, wonders never cease. Like me said, tis the silly season . . .

Well, I think it is a fact that Pennant makes great crosses.

It can be seen when Crouch was around and if Torres has been fit, I am pretty confident he would have started more games as Torres can receive his ball well.

Neither Keane nor Kuyt can really challenge for the ball from a cross.

Pennant did not feature more probably because of his lack of discipline. He is just another case of Bellamy.

Other teams who do not mind a player like him will benefit.

Benitez is someone who do not tolerate his attitude or lack of commitment during play. That is Pennant's biggest problem in my opinion. He still make great crosses, which was the reason Benitez bought him!

glad it wasnt Roma. come the next champs league match day he'd be on the scoresheet. for whatever stupid reason ex-Gooners are always at their best against the former employer. proving a point? these shitheads are never good to command a first-team action in the first place.

@dam: Er . . . what quality crosses? And his goal ratio . . . 'kin hell.

kerp: Maybe you gooners might do well to consider re-signing him. He's now a battle-hardened pro with bags of eauropean experience . . . hee hee.

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

re-signing a former player is totally un-Arsene way of dealing in transfer market.

eh, btw, isnt Mr Pennant the one on the left instead?

The positive is that 'Tarzan' does have a good right foot. Workrate is very good as well. Fer me it was a potentially good signing at first. He did exceptionally well at B'ham - lets not take that away. But as you would definitely agree and with the testimony of LFC's previous 'pasar malam' buys, these players just have to put on the red shirt and somehow all tends to go wrong. Can't seem to understand it after all this time really.

Harry Kewell is a classic. Currently Keano. The fookin thing is, quite often after these type players move on, they find their feet again. Baffling. Well, if anything, I'd have to be inclined to say its the way LFC are set up to play. These players are automatic first teamers prior but its apparent they just can't adapt themselves to a rotation policy.

JP couldn't command a regular spot simply cos with the circumstances, like the rest, couldn't be consistent enough. Don't believe he becomes a bad player after that though. He just doesn't fit in is all. And don't think he'll fit in with Real too. It'll just be groundhog day. Hull'll be a better bet me thinks. Rafa's got to get quality from now on just like Torres to cap LFC's current top position even if The Reds don't win it.

kevo: We bought this prick basically coz we couldn't afford Simao who was double the asking price.

We bought Pennant expecting him to fooking step up. But he hasn't, has he?

Fooker must know he has some lucky charm stuck up his arse fer real & ac to come calling!

kerp: Not like us . . . Fowler, (possibly) Heskey etc.

JonC: If they want an indisciplined drunkard, they could sign Adriano who has bags more talent albeit in a diff position. But would still be a better addition to the squad.

senorita: If it was the hair, they'd sign . . . Djibril Cisse!

Based on the pics...maybe he looks a bit like thiery henry...heheheh

I still think pennant is one of the best right wingers we have had in a very very long time.

Long live Jermain!!!!!!!! We should not make the same mistake as we did with Djimi!!! Hahahahaha!!!!

Jokes a side. If we can make at least 3-4 million pounds for him, I say sell.

Kopite78: As you can see, we've had some difficulty giving him away from free.

Perhaps all these rumours bout real & milan sniffing around were generated by our club in an attempt to get other clubs interested!!! Ha ha!

Despite the negative press about JP, I really did feel he did a good account on himself when RB bought him from Birmingham City. Yes you can say all you want and what not about the guy but he did not get the man of the match award in UCL Final AC MILAN 2007 vs LFC for nothing.

His crosses were good and together in tandem with Finnan they proved to be a devastating pair on the right, offensively or defensively. Sadly, me thinks it was that game when we lost 1-0 to Porto away playing at the Dragao Stadium and the chap was sent off on a deliberate foul. After the red card then an injury followed suit, I think he was never the same after that. Ofcourse the negative press and RB strict honor code. Then again, RB stood up for Stevie G during the current crises, why can't RB do the same with JP?

Pity though, I still regard him highly despite his frailities. But I have to ask this question, though, are we so quick to judge a person that he is deemed a failure so quickly?

After all, Stevie G is in the docks for what he did? Had it been JP, what would have your comment been? Strangely, I find it a possible differing situation that I gather because of the difference of character of Stevie G and Jermaine Pennant.

Then again, its my own opinion and it is free cyberspace

Jonno said...

Well, Stevie G has been clean cut (or supposedly) for as long as we know, but JP? Mr Tarzan himself? If you talk to people in UK, you'll know that he's nothing but trouble, going out every week just to look for some action. That I think has a big effect on his career.

AD: his goal ratio is pretty good init? He seemed to score a few time a week...

Tinesh said...

I thought he was awesome in Birmingham and I was pissed at Liverpool for buying him. Seriously.

But, I think after the injury he had he hasn't been the same. Plus, Babel has already unseated him as one of Liverpool's awesome wingers.

Jonno: Fantastic goal ratio, puts Rushie to shame.

Albertus: What cock you talking about ah? Too quick to judge? Stevie G v JP - different treatment?

Please la, some perspective when making comments.

Just where in this blog have you seen me attack JP's character even though he had made all the wrong headlines?

Also, this is not bout Stevie G. Rather it is the UNBELIEVABLE news that Real & AC are interested.

Now, me was wholeheartedly supportive of his 6m move from Birmingham a few years back. He was the best available at the price & was hoping we could finally tap into his vast potential. After all, Wenger thought him a fab player & he is rarely wrong.

But too quick to judge? Fook off la. How many games do you remember him playing a blinder? AC Milan final? Please la, most of team were poor that day.

Albertus, pls justify his goal ratio which is lower than Sami's & Agger's la. Fooking hell. Fer all yer "support Rafa" bluster, you are QUICK to judge his call fer what is quite clearly one player's lack of determination to step up to the plate.

Sorry, but JP is not Barnes or Beardsley. Fook, he ain't even Yossi!
And double fook, he couldn't even find the noggin of the league's tallest player on a regular basis. So much fer his "quality" crosses.

And yes, it is cyberspace, so there . . .

Tinesh: We poor club cannot go & splash money like water. So ni la akibat . . .

anba: Truth be told me was an admirer of Tevez looooong time ago . . . when his name started cropping up as the "new Maradona" when he was a 17-yr old at Boca. Me kept telling me wifey me hoped that man utd don't sign (this was a good four/five years ago).
And yes, me thought we should have gotten tevez as well from West Ham. What a partnership - Torres & Tevez.

As fer us being a poor club, dude, them Yanks have saddled us with 350m worth of debt la . . . and we don't have BIG SWANKY stadium like you fellas to generate extra income . . .

Isa: Milan 3 v Inter 2 . . . AC snatch derby win with Pennant hattrick!!! ha ha ha

Amir: Not really looking forward to the double header with you lot in a few weeks time. Sure brusing encounters leading to few injuries & suspensions . . .

Oh yeah, Everton wanna buy Penant? We sell to you cheap, cheap . . .

Speaking of quality differences, yes there is a BIG quality difference between SG and JP. Goal ratios, style of play, commitment etc.. The brits are probably right about JP being shite. However, its a paradox to why RB bought JP in the first place?

My thoughts on the situation is that had JP picked himself good for Birmingham City enough for RB to buy him and he did well in 2007. We do not need goal ratios to prove player's quality less we start talking about DK and RK's records. Surprisingly, I am very shocked to see that RB would give the fella a chance. Everything before that red card incident at the Dragao was peachy.

So much for second chances, eh?

AD, I am not here defending JP or anything but I do like his style of play if not why else the likes of AC Milan and Real Madrid are calling on him. Perspectively speaking JP failed to step up the plate after the incident in Porto when he was sent off and got himself injured and the rest is downhill history.

AD: I am not defending JP's quality but merely to say what a waste of good talent that could have been.

Then again I am not RB and its his first 11 that plays not mine.

However let us not forget there was a time when SG was going to be sold off to Chelsea and there were a few quarters that were happy to see him go....but that's another tale to spin, eh?

My thoughts are that its a pity that he is to be sold but then again, his personal atitude to work did stink during his recovery. Getting caught on the press with a bottle of JD didn't help either. I mean of all bottles, JD? Drink laa something expense like Chivas ker or Kristal ker...making so much $$ and you drink JD, eh?

One can only hope he has it better elsewhere. Let's just hope he does not end up like another tragic page from the burnt out fallen footballing talent storybook.

On another note, AD, chill laa...why so angry? not good for the heart laa weii.

:-)

anfield devotee said...

Dear Albertus,

Am chilled la. Not angry in the least bit, just a bit of verbal sparring that's all.

This sort of differing opinions goes on everywhere - RAWK, KopBlog etc. Good fer the system he he.

Me agrees with you. JP - wasted bloody talent. Shame when you consider gems like Rob Jones was robbed of his chance thru injury & this prick canna be bothered to buckle down & win back a place in our starting XI.

Players that shine so very rarely when they are supposedly talented bunch irritate the fook out of me.

More importantly, let's hope we can pull of a win v stoke this weekend. Me thinks this will be a defining moment in our season. Win & we pull away. Lose . . .

theALBERTUS said...

I couldn't agree with you more. One can only wish JP well in his future endeavours elsewhere. No loss on our side though. Onwards to thumping Stoke and here's to the downfall of chelsea and the beginning to and end of the Ferguson era.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!
