10 Years of . . . Ouch!

Wifey & meself recently marked a landmark in our relationship. We've been together fer 10 fooking years - Feb 12 was our fifth wedding anniversary & we'd been dating fer a previous five! Time fooking flies when yer having fun (am sure a lot of headlocked hubbies out there will understand me is obligated to say this! . . . aaaargh, not so hard, wifey!).

Anyways, me has been nagging me wifey fer fooking ages to get some ink. Finally, she relented & said we could mark our decade together with some ink.

As you can see from the pix, wifey (below) opted fer an Egyptian Ankh. She chose it because it is a powerful symbol of life. Plus in one of her fave graphic novels, Death (in the shape of a teenage female Goth!) is allowed to roam earth once every 1000 years. She experiences everything a mortal does but is most moved when she loses her Ankh & has to pay to replace it.
As fer me, I chose to get me name in Chinese calligraphy to reflect me mixed heritage. So no corny cupids or "Jonny Depp/Wynona Forever"-type tats!

Although it was a fairly small tattoo, I was ever so proud of wifey as she hardly flinched & took the pain like a trooper. Her tat was on the nape of her neck & it is quite a painful area fer ink, especially fer a first-timer. But she took everything in stride. Already, me is planning fer more excursions to tattoo studios fer hubby-wifey ink sessions!
I have to say it was really cool that wifey agreed to do it & it means a lot to me. So if there are any couples out there scratching yer heads over anniversary/valentine's pressies, go get a tat instead. Yer other half will be chuffed no end.
ps: Thanx to Benny at Inked Tattoo Studios (No 39-1, Jln PJS 11/28B, Sunway Metro, 46150 PJ. Tel: 012-8208269 / 017-252 6969. email: allthegreattimes@hotmail.com)

Congrats!!! On the 10th anniversary and the tattoos too. Like the Chinese characters of yours. The next one should be in Sanskrit. It would definitely look frickin' awesome!

premo: useful tip - Tattoos are fooking cheaper than de beers diamond!!!

wei yin: C'mon, aunty, go fer it! In all, three tats & yeah, me boss knows. The VP even saw it & said they were cool, saying it was ok to wear short sleeves as there was nothing in the rule book regarding tats!

kerp: TQ. Wait till u see me next tattoo project . . .

nick: yeah, thought bout the sanskrit but I already have the 'Aum' symbol in sanskrit.

I must admire your bravery to permanently mark yourself. I am just curious why you put your name and not your wifey's name as an anniversary tattoo.

Happy Anniversary, may you and Reena have many many decades more together!!!

kopite78: Its considered bad luck in tattoo circles. In fact, many tattoo artists will decline to do the job if you want to put yer spouse's name on you. (As per the mentioned Johnny Depp & Wynona Forever tats.)

The fact we did something like this together was cool enuff.

Oi!! Sorry to be bearer of bad news but your name is backwards & what you got actually is pronounced as "Balat"!!! Oh well...gotta live with it then!

BTW, congrats on the 10th anniversary!

Aunty Wei Yin: An "abo" style tat then??!!

Senorita: mau buat, buat la. WTF U care what ppl say. Your body wat! I have 2, my wife have 1. Go look up a good tattoist in NZ & get a uber cool Maori tat!!

Jon-C said...

Congrats mate! Hope you guys will have more tattoos. ;0)

bernard: sorry, ain't falling fer that one. Unlike you, I can actually write me name in chinese! And this is how it's written!

senorita: agree with bernard. Just make sure you pick good (& extremely clean) tattoo parlour & just do it. Once its done, there's fook all anyone can do about it. And yeah, NZ is one of the cornerstones of tattoo culture, so what better memento of yer time there than a maori tat.

jonc: Thanx! Bila u mau buat LFC tat?

about time my sister gets a tatt!!! i'm glad she got the ankh too... ask her to get another one... i'll be happy to design...

maori tatts are fantastic... afterall both my arms are filled with maori motifs...

happy 10 years... and please dont wait another 10 years to get yer next tatt...

to senorita: cleaniness is important... a few tips...

1. inking area must me air-conditioned

2. fresh needles

3. check the grade of ink (as most places uses crap ink and inspite of the fantastic artwork - the ink fades or smudges after a few weeks/months)

4. no smoking in inking area

happy tattooing y'all!!!!

its time to design my next tatt!

slacker: you forgot to mention that all tubes must be sterilized as well. Quite a few places do not have the proper machinery fer this. So do make sure not just needles are clean but the tubes are as well!

MC Lester: TQ Macha! Nice one dude! Though you answer wifey yerself bout calling her scum supporter, ok?

which part of the body is the least painful to get a tattoo on?

Jon-C said...

If and when i get a tattoo, the first will be the chinese character of my surname. Being the only hero in my family, need to remind myself of the fact that i'm the sole flag bearer for me family. ;0)

senorita: Fleshy parts like your upper arm or . . . ahem . .. breasts or butt. Wrists, ankle & spine all hurt like shit!

JonC: Give Benny a call. And also get married soon!

Bernard said...

Senorita : you have to remember for someone like Bala, he's fleshy all over so he can get a tat anywhere. For a stick insect like you though, & other than the boobs or butt, I'd say the shoulder, thighs & calf. But for a first tat, the shoulder would look better as a canvas.

JonC : so you know what you want to get, big question now is WHEN??

senorita.. said...

wanna get pelvis tattoo...

senorita: No worries la. Pain is bearable unless its on the rib cage or something boney. Inner thigh is fleshy so why not.

Otherwise the usual upper arm or shoulder is recommended. Do give us a sneek peak of yer tattoo design ok, since you might be putting it somewhere you cannot publicise on yer blog.

Good luck!

senorita.. said...

dunnno laaaa..... hmmm.... still very indecisive abt the tat. i have at least 9more months to think abt it..

and who says it cant b publicize on my blog?(if i ever get one that is..) it's just a tattoo... =P

Hey looks good. Was always partial to the ankh myself and Death is indeed quite a character. Congratulations you two.
