Are we the new Blackburn?

Saturday afternoon - went to petrol kiosk fer ciggies. Noticed an Indian guy with his family at the fuel pump. His wifey & three daughters were all clad in LFC jerseys (Grannie was spared). Me thought fooking hardcore!

Drove me car to the air pumps to check tyre pressure. There was another car at the next pump. Driver gets out of car . . . clad in a pristine away LFC jersey. Eh, ramai pulak.

As me drives out of the kiosk, me is stuck behind a Pajero in the exit queue. And lo & behold, there's a brand new-looking LFC sticker stuck on the rear windscreen (me says brand new as the sticker didn't look like it has been sitting there fer years where the colours are faded from over exposure to our panas terik).

Then it struck me. Shit, this is the first time in years that me beloved Reds has been touted as serious title contenders. Could this sudden appearance of Red paraphernalia be genuine Kopites coming out of the woodwork or typical Malaysian lalang syndrome? Remember how we used to see Blackburn jerseys everywhere after they fooking won the league? Or the sudden injection of Chelsea Blue on our streets in the last few years?

Wonder if they were still wearing them shirts on Sunday morning after the seriously painful defeat to Spurs? Lalang would normally put their shirts away. But then again, many lalang would have found a 1.30 am kick off a little to late fer their liking & would've been fooking oblivious.

So are we the new Blackburn?

ps: Sorry bout this posting, just venting after a shite weekend. No offence meant to any Kopites . . . genuine or otherwise.

pps: Congrats to Moz, Anand the Silent Obeserver & all other Spurs fans who are having a great week after disastrous start.

hehe....M'sia boleh!!

Guess you won't find many "weirdos" who still stick to their beloved club even after being relegated to the Championship!!!
What the hell....At least Soton won this weekend too!!! (Came back from 2 goals down!!)hehehe!!

It is as expected that we have awoken the slumbering quiet fans of Liverpool FC. I think it is a good sign that the fans are coming back. As for me, well regardless where Liverpool FC goes up or down to Division 3. Gua still support!

Now that is what you call You'll Never Walk Alone!

Oh ya! Congrats to Spurs on a great fightback. We'll see you fellas again Nov 19 for the Carling Cup 4th Round. This time, Torres will be around!

nanda: Well done on comeback victory. Play off place possible?

albertus: No probs with genuine fans. Like me said, this posting was just to vent frustration from the weekend's result.

As fer League Cup, don't you think Rafa should be fielding the reserves (Ngog, ElZhar, Plesis et al) of we are to seriously conserve our energies fer the league & europe.

But then again, the League Cup might just be our best hope fer a trophy this year!!!

AD : You are one person who always seems to have "A Bad Feeling" everytime before Liverpool plays any game. I m going to tell you again what I have always told u, "You are a pain in the ass before a Liverpool game!" Remember what you said b4 the Chelsea game? "I am going to have a bad Deepavali"!!!!!

Fer Fook's Sake, no team is going to go thru an entire season w'out losing a game anymorelah. The Gunners will prob be the last team.

Before you say you would love to be proven wrong by Liverpool after each game, pls try to be more positivelah!

I personally feel that the defeat could be a blessing in disguise as it certainly removes the pressure of being the only undefeated team left in the league. They could now play more fluent and attractive football as well!

As Albertus said, true fans will always be fans of the club no matter what happens!

LLT: In case you haven't noticed, the posting distinctly does not point fingers at Rafa or his tactics.

Just feeling fooked up la. So need to vent, so me decides that lalang fans are an easy & convenient scapegoat.

True fans? Of course, will stick by em no matter what. Have me abandoned em? But do realise that defeat is ALWAYS painful if you care bout the team.

As fer being positive. Well, me remebers certain parties talking way too much cock bout winning the european cup last season. Sounded just a wee bit too much like man utd arseholes bragging fer me liking . . .

theALBERTUS said...

I agree with LLT on AD's comment. I did remember there were not positive comments on our current wins so far excep for AD's pleasure of our win against the SCUMS. With Chelsea, such naysaying was still apparent.

AD...AD...AD...sigh!

I know its been 18 years since we last won No.1 but if there's hope then there's a chance!

theALBERTUS said...

AD, I know how that feels. I wanted to smash the TV when I saw Redknapp's smirk!

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

the League cup your best hope? for fuck's sake, give Liverpool some due credits la boss. at some point during the season, going through some hiccups are inevitable. last week was it for you guys la. on the other hand, Spurs are enjoying their good run which will come to a stop eventually.

as for Arsenal, well, we've become some sort of a specialist at producing shocking result this season. somehow we knew what to expect at the Brittania Std last weekend. it was written all over the wall la chief. aiyaahhh...

but you bet, went out for breakfast the morning after donning me Red&White ever so proudly.

GOONER FOR LIFE!!!!

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

i agree with you Bala, that for a true fan, any defeat will be painful you tend to lose your appetite and sleep especially. the first thing you avoid the next morning is the papers' backpages. call me a sore loser for all i care, i'm just too passionate to give a shit about everything else.

albertus: Yes, me is a negative fook. Unfortunately, unlike some of you, me never quite recovered from the scars inflicted by Michael Thomas & Lawrie Sanchez.

And once again me points out that me did not rant & rave bout the team or the gaffer in this posting. Me thinks the starting XI was the correct one & even the subs looked like the ones that would have got us the second goal.

So, bear with me as me just needed to lepas geram. Sure defeats are part of the game but that don't mean me has to like it or accept it.

kerp: Me was quite shocked especially van Persie's dungu sending off. So he won't play v mu this weekend. C'mon you Gooners! You gotta to do it this weekend to keep season alive!

Me thinks that arsenal are becoming the old Liverpool...losing to teams like Hull..stoke..Fulham...
Big time Cibai's these dungus..(persie...adebayor..gallas..)...

My take is this. I think we played well against Spurs and showed some slick passing. Had Gerrard scored instead of twice hitting the post, Kuyt guided the ball in with his right foot instead of deflecting it wide of the open goalmouth, and Alonso opened his eyes instead of heading it into the side netting, the mood would be really different. It was a kick in the teeth but at least we played decent football.

Seems we only win when we play crap these days.

Needless to say, I wore my LFC T-Shirt out to 1-Utama expecting to see a sea of Scum and Chelsea kits but to my surprise, none were in sight. Well I did see a manc crossing the road when it was raining. Managed to bring my road rage under control though lol.

While I'm not overly optimistic, I am still happy that this is our best start to the league and we are still joint leaders. I also see that the team is showing better movement and understanding.

biasalah...whenever a team does well, ada saja new 'lalang' followers...

these days, watching the games have turned into a somewhat sacred religious solitary affair for me (also to avoid lalangs & scums..which can irritate me terribly if we lose)...so excuse my absence at M-bar, which unfortunately, sorry, is NOT the same as AD's place...Am hoping that this will translate into No.19...now getting very sensitive if we continue this barren run...especially when scums are closing in on us...(anger management lah bro by staying at home...)

kalau kalah, suffer in silence..if menang, can sleep soundly and go to work on monday with a smile on the face...

mark said...

It isn't meant to be the same dude but I respect your opinion nonetheless. In the end, our simple intention is to gather people to watch games together. AD's was different because it was quite simply, his place of work as well.

kevo said...

Share your sentiments before the game thinkin Spurs could be just the side right on the up to whisk an upset. It just fookin had to be la! Thought the game was good for a draw really, after Spurs had us on the backfoot for awhile after we were takin potshots at their woodwork. Switched the tele off immediately after the 2nd one and stormed up to bed! Needless to say too furious to sleep. Then I thought, just calm yourself we're still up there mah, tiu! So yah, maybe its good for the reds to be put in their place like that but then again fook it la, to lose it in true red style? Just too painful!

After bein there shit loads of times I seriously hope this is NOT the start of a slump again. But, on a positive note, while not really in top gear, LFC is still up there so far and this current side is quite convincing I believe. Its got good shape, switching play very comfortably and seem threatening on both flanks. I mean, we're not as flash as Chelsea, United or Arsenal on the pitch thats for sure la but we've got our game on. Once Agger gets more matches and Torres gets back, its gonna be all good. Winning the BPL? Just wishin for a good run...

Isa: Actually, those people me saw may be genuine supporters. Like me said, it was just me cynical self venting after defeat.

Mark: Fer what is worth, me thinks MyRawk is doing a fooking splendid job of flying the flag as an independent LFC outfit.
Suggestion: Buy yer own bar? Old Broadwalk is vacant . . . :-)

kevo: Yeah, quite frustrating to lose that game after controlling most of it. Let's hope we can bounce back & show the rest we are serious contenders.

anba: Not quite so bad lar, bro. At least you guys are still playing with some panache. We used to play shite footie & then lose to the likes of Soton home & away like we did in 2005!

AD never forget what a particular song lyric said "though your dreams be tossed and torn, walk on with hope in your heart"

So with hope in our heart let us walk on to No. 19!!!

theALBERTUS said...

Its painful and it stinks to lose but we'll recover somehow. Its how we come back from the ashes of defeat is what defines Liverpool FC's finest hour..

Keep the faith!

Someone asked if I was free on the night of the 22nd. Now I remember why I told him I've got something on. Thanks for the reminder!

i read this at the lowyat forum at the LFC lounge and this is what he says "If our confidence gets blown because of one loss and our form dips then we're not fit to challenge for the title."

Enuff said there dun you think?

Mark: RE: Becky, got la some fooker with a Cindy Crawford-style mole!

Me was thinking 22nd Nov, blogger get-together plus Becky's b'day as well lar. Double celeb.

Albertus: Correcto. If we canna deal with one loss, then we should fook off.

Like me said, me is just venting lar. Plus that uneasy feeling me gets whenever we enter the dark Nov days which is usually the time our challenge falls apart.

akuani: relek la. am in the midst of contacting the guys lar.

Unknown said...

AD: I relek la .. kih kih kih just changing focus ma ... saje je ...since YOU called me BN supporter in Opposition clothing, have to pull up some BN tactics la .. to show their pathetic education system has not failed entirely

Ok I am IN for 22nd. Looks like at least I'm confirmed :)) and last I read some where Kerp too so that makes 3 different footie fans coming together RIGHT AD?? and staying off taking swipes at each other right???

I was away and back in my 'ol stomping ground in Sitiawan, Perak. So, i missed the game. Anyhow, was too busy becoming a "kuli" to help with some family functions to think about the defeat. Well, time to really show we are the championship winning material we hope were are and bloody bounce bad this weekend.

Hey, same case man!

On the day before the Chelsea-Liverpool game, I was at Pavilion and guess what?...

Every corner I turn, there's someone wearing a Liverpool shirt whether it be a brand new jersey, old ones, t-shirts, genuine, fake, whatever!!!

It scare the shit out of me too...and for the whole day...i saw only 1 clad in blue (Chelsea's jersey)...

When success is around or achieved, we see suddenly a great bloom of fans...my only worry is..how genuine are these fans...gone once Liverpool lost to Tottenham?...hmmm...

mark said...

I don't know about you but on a few occasions, I've bumped into Liverpool fans and we exchanged knowing nods. We didn't stop to talk for too long of course but we have simple exchanges like, "hey, good choice of team dude". It may just be me but I do feel a sense of camaraderie.

ISA said...

no disrespect intended to the folks at my-rawk and m-bar..the my-rawk guys are doing an excellent job in gathering reds to view games...whether new or old fans.

its just me getting older and grumpier...my football has become a more integral part of my faith..haha and just to go off-tangent for awhile, its the Ketuanan REDs that i practice..haha and i get terribly upset when that is questioned...

anfield devotee said...

mark/Becky: Yes, agreed. Me has done on that on more than one occassion ie exchanged nods or made a 'V fer victory'sign after a win. Me occasionaly gets a 'respect dude' when a fellow Red spots me tattoo.

But it was just slightly odd to see sooooo many Reds at one petrol kiosk.
And like me said, just wanted to vent after the defeat. No disrespect meant to anyone.

@dam: Hopefully some will stick around.

Isa: Ketuanan Reds!!! Ahh haah ahaaa . . . Good one!

JonC: We need to bounce back tonite v Athletico Madrid!Someone's gotta to step up to scoring duties when Torres not around. Time fer Robbie Keane to start justifying his fat fee.

mark said...

These sleepless nights are going to catch up with us someday. Look how grumpy it's made Isa! LoL

ISA said...

I suppose we all subscribe to Ketuanan REDS...a concept where REDS ought to be the best team in the world, but must perform to justify having been given that special status by the adoring hard core fans...a concept created by SHANKS...solidified by BOB and exalted by Dalglish...

hmmm...a good idea for a banner in Rome..
