Shit Stirring & the Politics of Race

Me fellow Malaysians,

Malaysians are very fond of pointing out our (supposed) multi-racial harmony.

Please read the following article & tell me what ye thinks.

The Malaysian Insider
Thursday April 23 2009Police station mobbed after school fight
PONTIAN, April 23 — A mob of about 1,000 laid siege to a police station in Pekan Nanas, Johor, on Monday after a Malay teacher was allegedly assaulted by a Chinese man in a national school.

The police station was locked up and a Federal Reserve Unit squad was deployed to prevent the crowd from storming the building.

The police were armed with assault guns while others carried shields or tear gas canisters as they formed a protective ring around the police station.

According to Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Amer Awal, the problem started when a 13-year-old Chinese student was slapped by a 17-year-old Malay student last Friday after he accidentally brushed the older boy's shoulders.

The Chinese boy is the grandson of a well-known MCA leader, a news website reported.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the Chinese student was transferred to the school less than a month ago and had a history of playing truant. He was once suspended from school for 14 days, the paper reported.

After the assault, the younger boy's father turned up with three friends at the school on Monday to settle the matter but was stopped by the Malay teacher, who is believed to be the father of the student who had hit the boy.

A fight broke out between the two, and the teacher later lodged a police report claiming that he sustained injuries to his face, chest and back.

The 36-year-old father of the Chinese boy was arrested while he was making a report at the Pekan Nanas police station.

When news of the incident broke out, the teacher's friends and relatives began to gather at the police station.

Scuffles erupted between the angry crowd and the police while the boy's father was being transferred to the Pontian district police headquarters in a van.

The crowd tried to stop the van from leaving, with some people throwing objects at the vehicle, smashing one of its windows.

The police are investigating the slapping incident while the father, who has been remanded, is being investigated for trespassing and causing offence in a group.

Following the incident, SMS messages were circulated among Pekan Nanas residents warning them of racial tensions and telling them to stay at home.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wee Jeck Seng urged the police to come down hard on those responsible for circulating the SMS messages. — The Malaysian Insider

Are we so fooking sad that a RACIAL RIOT could be triggered by something so fooking childish & juvenile as ONE BULLY SLAPPING THE FATHER OF ANOTHER BULLY? Haiyo, sedih la . . .

kerp: am not so naive to think the deep-rooted problem of racism is non-existent. Me point is how can something so fooking trivial involving a couple of knuckleheads turn into such a big hoo-har? I mean, seriously . . .

i guess we have long long way to go.

there is this chinese guy in love with my daughter BUT had to break up the relationship because his parents disapprove the relationship with non-chinese especially malays. in fact his mother had heart attack once knew about the relationship.

oh well.

as said, we have long long way to go.

azer: Ok, me knows this is gonna ruffle a few feathers. But in many cases such as what ye mentioned, it is because the LAW requires a spouse to convert to Islam if marrying a Malay.

You can understand why some people are apprehensive.

Again, as a product of a mixed marriage meself, me can tell you plenty of people used to frown on me parents fer marrying outside their race.

But when the law imposes COMPULSORY conversion, it adds yet another dimension to an already complicated state of affairs.

AD: Fooking unbelievable how something small has become so big. Like WTF.

I really don't understand the teacher's friends and relatives storming the police station... i mean the guy has already been arrested.... and then now they want to take the law in their own hands?

what else did they want? Fooking crazy man.

Ani: I have many other friends who have similar cases like you. Stop by the traffic light and these "ants" automatically surround you. They just like hassling women i think... nothing more. sad part is, the cops are afraid of them... so don't go running to them.

What we need is a vigalante like Punisher who is bent on taking all these fookers down.

Well if ppl start to scratch the surface of Bolehland society, they'll find a less than rosy scenario. Truly Asia, my foot lah.

Everyone's got racism tendencies but some of us are open minded enough to acknowledge that and work together to break down the barriers and understand each other more. Some choose otherwise, and i mean both the bumi and non-bumi side. Sad, really sad.

We are still living in a society plagued with racial overtones. It takes a concerted effort from everyone, just to exorcise that niggling urge to be amongst your own kind.

Tinesh: Edwin Starr?

Amir Hamzah: Correct. If we can welcome a bluenose here . . .

talking about The Watchmen, so happen i caught a novel-based movie titled Little Children last night where Jackie Earle Haley, one of the Watchmen, played a role as a pedo.

it was a good movie. although some people will say nothing beats reading the novel itself, but guess what, i finished the whole story within 2 hours. and the best part was, it spared me from reading!

muahahahaaa...

Hahahaha...finally some recognition by Mr Liverpool himself for the Blue half. Much appreciated dude. It ain't over yet as we've still haven't won anything but it is looking like the FA Cup is the only trophy coming to Merseyside. As for this incident of bully vs bully....what can i say? I'm deeply sadened cause people are so easily instigated and provoked. So much is wrong in this country.

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

ahh, ok. reminds me very much of our in-house rambler...kahkahhh...
