Best of Tengkorak Rock!

Continuing on the theme of me last posing, I've remembered another blast from the past. This is a right toughie as the videos above feature two of me very favourite bands doing the same song - Obituary doing a cover of Celtic Frost's Circle Of The Tyrants.

The first video is of the mighty Celtic Frost who are considered to be the pioneers of death/black metal & the video was shot during their early 80s pomp. Check out the band's suitably metal fashion sense! I have always wanted to walk around with a big fooking studded wrist band and dress like a barbarian heavy metal warrior hell bent on leather! Add a bit of face paint & a touch of black mascara & I think I'll look fooking ACE! But noooo, wifey has to be a fooking killjoy & insist I behave me age . . .

Second vid features what I consider to be one of the best death metal bands to have ever walked the planet. I urge even the non-metalheadz to this blog to check em out as their live shows fooking kick ass.

Awesome music + quite possibly the deathliest growl this side of the universe from "singer" John Tardy + serious headbanging from the Obituary themselves = SERIOUS FOOKING METAL!

Again, I ask you to vote on which is the better version - ori or cover? I'm leaning towards the cover as I've had the privilege to actually see Obituary live during their Cause Of Death tour & this song tore the fooking roof off! Like I said, this is a tough choice & as usual, I look forward to yer comments & thoughts on the subject.

PS: Both bands have reformed in the last few years & have new LPs out. Obituary released Executioners Return in Aug 2007 whilst The Frost's new album Monotheist also hit the market earlier this year.

oh dear, i nearly pengsan attempting to listen to your brand of music. sounds like a lot of noise to me. enough said. sorry, still not up to this!

Obituary's version did it for me...vocals more brutal!!

As for your missus' advise for you not to join the Celtic Frost fashionistas, its good advise indeed as with you being both horizontally & vertically challenged, rather austere at the top & at the wrong side of 30...you'll look fooking ridiculous going about town with those spiked elbow-length wristbands & dark mascara not to mention giving terminal nightmares to little children.

As for Ms. Wong, she'll never join the dark side so lets leave her alone with her boybands & Richard Clayderman shall we??

Wei Yin: That's why I didn't ask you to check out the latest videos. But many kudos to you fer doing so. Well done. Though the reaction was not all-together unexpected . . .

Bernard: Yeah! Obituary fooking rules. Must buy their new album. Pertama, bro?

As you can see above, I did not ask Aunty to listen to these tunes knowing full well what her response gonna be.

If not the leather-&-studs combo, how bout the frilly shirt-&-leather-pants look as worn by bassist Eric Martin Ain ie modern day Dracula look? he he

Too heavy for me liking. Dunno how to comment! :0P

Yeah, those frills OK-lah. Not so much the Count Dracula look but remnant of a 70's formal dinner do...

wei yin: forgot to ask, which version of "noise" do you prefer? thy Mighty Frost's version or Obituary?

Bernard: I bang my head with agreement! Obituary's version rules... No frills! What the hell is up with the Frost's bassist Dracula look tho? Sucks man! Hehe!!

Weiyin69: It's OK not to like this kinda music - to each his/her own as I sometimes remind Anfield Devotee when he criticizes others for not being able to appreciate extreme music.

However I must disagree with Bernard's opinion of what he considers to be the 'dark side'. Richard Clayderman is the Devil himself - after all isn't the dark lord's greatest trick convincing people he doesn't exist?

Anfield Devotee: Eh! Let me know when you are goin to Pertama - join! Dunno about the 'metal look' thing but I imagine you'd look more like the evil Clown dude in that Spawn movie than King Diamond. Cannot make it la bro!!

Btw, I've rummaged thru my dusty compilation cassettes over the weekend and managed to pick out the long lost Roadrunner compilation, Covered. Amongst the gems listed there - Machine Heads' cover of Poison Ideas' "Alan's on Fire" and Karma to Burns' slow burning version of the Joy Division classic "24 hrs". Killer!

Premo: eh, hello, i did NOT critisize Aunty Wei Yin fer not digging these videos. Correct, to each to his/her own. I am acutely aware of people's limitations. (Note I did NOT criticize Jon C fer not digging it either).

But am usually very critical of people who are somehow can't think outside of a very narrow confines of metal (I think you know who I am talking about!). Don't even wanna try . . . wha tha fook?

Even Wei Yin checked it out but I seriously doubt THAT person would have done so eventhough he is a metal fan. Do u see me point?

Eh, pundek, who the fook u calling a (spawn) clown? Wait till I wallop yer fooking balls with me studded wrist band than u know. Besides, I quite dig the Tom G Warrior look.

Pertama. First weekend of Nov? Lepas dapat gaji, can go Deepavali shopping fer some CDs & me studded wrist band! he he

aiyo, noise is noise. i don't know how to comment. my kids asked me what noise was that too! i said uncle anfield has a weird taste in music ...

anfield devotee said...

wei yin: Yes, yer kids heard it! Tis how it starts. Be warned of the impending doom of metalheadz children. . . (cue lotsa of melodramatic thunder & lightning in background) . . . muahahaha!

PS: So do u think I'll look good in leather & chains plus studded wristband?

Bernard said...

Ehh pundek! Told you to stay off the streets if you're gonna do that & don't traumatize little kids with the ogre look.

senorita: what da think of the fashion sense displayed by Celtic Frost? Is the leather, studs & chains cool or do u prefer Count Dracula in a frilly shirt stylie?
