A society divided

Malcolm X once said,"We must be able to walk down a street without having to endure being called a nigger." Although our context is not as extreme as racist America during the 50s/early 60s, there are a few things I'd like to see. Fer starters, that politicians (or anybody else fer that matter) do not ask us to "Balik India" whenever communal rights are raised in the House of Parliament & that the Ruling Party stop calling fer "Chinese blood to bathe in" at their annual shin dig (I doubt Chinese blood carries the halal certificate so it's not a good idea anyways . . .)!

The list below was posted on the group email of mywordup. Interesting read to say the least. Fer Fook's Sake has no way of verifying the stats & have posted them verbatim. Although many do carry a whiff of hearsay, it is nothing compared to the utter lies, propaganda & fooking bullshit that regularly masquerade as news & social commentary in the Malay press.

Can anyone out there disprove these stats/facts? Or better yet, can anyone explain the need fer such unbridled avarice & greed whilst completely marginalising 45% of the country's population?

Like I said, I cannot verify the authenticity of these claims but they do sound pretty fooking familiar. Personally, I know all of me grandparents passed away without ever getting their BLUE ICs, whilst me former Indonesian staff at me bar all got theirs within a few years of applying. We also know of the plight of the many straight 'A' students who were denied entry into med school here; so there's a healthy chance most of the list at least carry a modicum of truth.

ps: Fer Fook's Sake invites all of you to post a comment on the state of our beloved nation. TQ

This list cover a period of about 49 years since Independence Day in Malaysia (1957):
1) Out of all the 5 major banks in Malaysia, only one bank is multi-racially owned, the rest are controlled by Malays.)
2) 99% of Petronas (the only one petroleum company) directors are Malays, and the former Prime Minister works as a Consultant in Petronas.
3) 3% of Petronas employees are Chinese.
4) 99% of 2000 Petronas gasoline stations are owned by Malays.
5) 100% of all contractors working under Petronas projects must have"bumiputra" status (Malay).
6) 0% of non-Malay staff are legally required in Malay companies. But there must be 30% Malay staff in Chinese companies, and this includes shareholders. This mean non-Malay who owns the company need to give their property to the Malays and non-Malay citizens can't fully own their business.
7) 5% of all new intake for government police, nurse and army, is non-Malays.
8) 2% is the present Chinese staff in Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), a plunging drop from 40% in 1960.
9) 2% is the percentage of non-Malay government servants in Putrajaya(Malaysia main government office), but Malays make up 98%.
10) 7% is the percentage of Chinese government servants in the government sector (in 2004), and has dropped from 30% in 1960. There are only 2position for non-Malays in political status.
11) 95% of government contracts are given to Malays; even if it is an open tender. Non-Malay contractors who; tender for lower prices and use better materials, can't get the contract.
12) 100% of all business licenses are controlled by Malay government e.g.Taxi permits, Approved permits, etc. and all the license are given to government officials' families.
13) 80% of the Chinese rice millers in Kedah(north of peninsular Malaysia)had to be sold to Malays and controlled by Bernas (Government Org.) since1980s. Otherwise, life is made difficult for Chinese rice millers.
14) 100 big companies; set up, owned and managed by Chinese Malaysians, were taken over by government and later managed by Malays since 1970's e.g.UTC, UMBC, MISC, etc. This company now is the sole company.
15) At least 10 Chinese owned bus companies(throughout Malaysia in a span of 40 years) had to be sold to MARA or other Malay transport companies due to rejection by the Malay authorities to Chinese application for bus routes as well as rejection for their application for new buses.
16) 2 Chinese taxi drivers were barred from driving in Johor (South of Peninsular Malaysia) Larkin bus station. There are about 30 taxi drivers and3 are Chinese in October 2004.Spoiling taxi club properties was the reason given.
17) 0 non-Malays are allowed to get shop lots in the new Muar (city in south peninsular Malaysia) bus station(November 2004).
18) 8000 billion ringgit is the total amount the government channeled to Malay pockets through ASB, ASN, MARA,privatization of government agencies like Tabung Haji etc, through NEP over a period of 34 years.
19) 48 Chinese primary schools closed down from 1968 to 2000.
20) 144 Tamil primary schools closed down since 1968 - 2000
21) 2637 Malay primary schools built since 1968- 2000
22) 2.5% is government budget for Chinese primary schools. Tamil schools got only 1%, Malay schools got 96.5%
23) While a Chinese parent with RM1000 salary(monthly) cannot get school textbook loan, a Malay parent with RM2000 salary is eligible.
24) All 10 public universities vice chancellors are Malays. And political parties in universities are held by Malays. If non-Malays want to form apolitical party, there is no way to get an approval.
25) 5% - the government universities lecturers of non-Malay origins had been reduced from 70% in 1965 to only 5% in 2004 with the reasoning by the Malaysian Education Ministry that they give full support for Malays only.
26) Over the last 40 years, only 5% of non-Malays receive government scholarship.
27) 0 Chinese or Indians were sent to Japan and Korea under "Look East Policy".
28) 128 STPM (A Level) Chinese top students could not get into the course they aspire i.e. medicine, in 2004.Whereas, Malays without proper qualification/results can get into the course.
29) 10% placing for non-bumiputra students for MARA science schools beginning 2003, but only 7% are filled. Before that it was 100% Malays.
30) 50 cases whereby Chinese and Indians are beaten up in the National Service program since 2003.
31) 25% is Malaysian Chinese population in 2004, dropping from 45% since1957 because the government is not supporting non-Malays like how they support Malays.
32) 7% is the present Malaysian Indian population (2004), a drop from 12%since 1957.
33) 2 million Chinese Malaysians had emigrated overseas for the past 40years due to unfair politics.
34) 0.5 million Indian Malaysian had emigrated overseas.
35) 3 million Indonesians had migrated into Malaysia and became Malaysian citizens with bumiputra status.
36) 600,000 are the total amount of Chinese and Indian Malaysians with"red I/C" (a temporary identity card) and were rejected repeatedly when applying for citizenship for over 40 years. Perhaps 60% of them had already passed away due to old age. This shows racism of how easily Indonesians got their citizenships compared to the Chinese and Indians.
37) 5% - 15% discount for a Malay to buy a house, regardless whether they are rich or poor.
38) 2% is what Chinese villages get compared to 98% of what Malay villages get for rural development budget.
39) At least 50 road names had been changed from Chinese names to other names.
40) Dewan Gan Boon Leong (in Malacca) was altered to another name(e.g.Dewan Serbaguna) when it was being officially used for a few days.Government tries to shun Chinese names. This happened in the year 2000.
41) 0 temples/churches were built for each housing estate, but every housing estate MUST have at least one mosque/surau built.
42) 3000 mosques/surau were built in all housing estates throughout Malaysia since 1970 with full government support. No temples, no churches are built in housing estates that are supported by government.
43) A Catholic Church in Shah Alam took 20 years to apply to be constructed, but they were told by Malay authorities that it must look like a factory and can't look like a church. Still not yet approve since 2004.
44) Publishing of the Bible in Iban language banned (in 2002).
45) 0 of the government TV stations (RTM1,RTM2, and TV3) have directors of non-Malay origin.
46) 30 government produced TV dramas and films always show the bad guys with Chinese face, and the good guys with Malay face. You can check it out,it has been happening since the 1970s. In recent years, this tendency becomes less.
47) 10 times, at least, Malays(especially Umno) had threatened to massacre the Chinese Malaysians using the May 13th riot in 1969.
48) 20 constituencies won by DAP would either not get funds from the government to develop or be the last ones to develop.
49) 100 constituencies (parliaments and states)had been race-delineated so Chinese voters were diluted and Chinese candidates;particularly DAP candidates, lose in elections. This has been happening since the 1970s.
50) Only 3 out of 12 human rights items are ratified by the Malaysian government since 1960
51) 0 elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (UN Human Rights)is not ratified by Malaysia government since 1960s.
52) 20 reported cases whereby Malay ambulance attendant treated a Chinese patient inhumanely, and Malay government hospital staff purposely delay attending to Chinese patients in 2003. Unreported cases may go up to over200
53) 50 cases each year whereby Chinese; especially Chinese youths, are beaten up by Malay youths in public places. We may check at police reports provided the police took the report, otherwise there will be no record.
54) 20 cases every year whereby Chinese drivers who accidentally knockdown Malays were seriously assaulted or killed by Malays.
55) 12% is what ASB/ASN (Malay owned banks) get per annum while banks fixed deposit is only about 3.5% per annum.

i got this in my mail some time ago. it's quite shocking to read abt the stats and i do think that non-bumis are marginalized

i can verify some of them. imagine scoring all As and not being able to get anywhere? not that i scored that many As lar but we all know that.

Also my parents were both civil servants before retiring. and man, most of their colleagues never had to do much, damn sickening.

while the government tries to paint a rosy picture after 50 years of independence, we all know the truth that lurks beneath the picture. sad but true.

by the way, whatever happened to that Namewee bloke? do you know?

What we need is a Civil Rights Movement like the 60s in America!!!!

What's really stupid is how they still expected ALL 'Malaysians' to show their patriotism during the recent Merdeka celebrations. Quite honestly, it was just another holiday to me and I'm sure I'm not alone.

i received this in the mail some time back too. what i don't understand, inspite of having everything on a silver platter, why can't they improve themselves? at the end of the day, they are still at the losing end... why is that so?

Fact - we are growing backwards. I bet TAR will roll in his grave knowing what the bunch of "patriotic" jokers are doing to the country.

Fact - NEP is an abused system, the rich get richer while the average kampung folks are still kampung folks.

Malaysia Boleh!!!

Its been proven that affirmative action in one form or another doesn't really work, noble though be its intention. As we can see, some 30 years after NEP was started, most of them still have to rely on the crutches of handouts, bailouts, subsidies or whatever else you want to call it. Recent talk by the PM of becoming self-reliant etc is purely for "motivational" purposes. If they did away with the NEP, UMNO as it is today may not survive.

Malaysia Boleh? Well only if have the right connections, otherwise piss off...

Other message boards have sounded out that the list is RACIST & is designed to further polarise Malaysian society plus the "facts" are from an unknwon source.
Fer Fook's Sake is of the opinion that "when in rome . . . "
Plus we are all aware that some of the lists is FOOKING TRUE (eg mentioned in posting regarding blue ICs & Uni places).

Here's a comment published in the Economist (30/8/07) & in a nutshell, captures the state of the nation today.

&CFID=19764238&CFTOKEN=94969518

Whether the list & "facts" are 100% true or whether its racist boils down to an undeniable fact that the situation we have today was created by the government of the day & the deeper they try to dig themselves out of it, the deeper the muck they find themselves in.

item 43; the church has already been built after some 22 years. It is functioning ok now, but it does not have external cross! And outside its sign says 'wisma'. but god did say where 2 or 3 are gathered in his name, there he will always be. Islam is a beautiful religion, and having heard Imam Feisal the other day, I am convinced that there are a lot of moderate muslims who weep for this nation of ours. As for the nep, its not that the bumis still depend pn it, they choose to depend on it!
I say its time we show them in the next GE!

senorita is amazed about the statistic as she should be. Obviously she has not noticed it because life is so good for her. It need some loser like fer fook to make her realise yes she can still have more..the greedy race that is the chinese with 80% of the wealth is not enough...the fact is that they are just not interested in anything but making money...

"Fresh fruit for rotting vegetables". That's the first thing that comes to my mind when addressing this topic - the Dead Kennedy's first album. Not only because of the album's fiery political content, but the title itself: The futile attempt of dressing up something that is already deteriorating at it's core to make believe everything is OK and pretty. That's pretty much the state of our nation's racial and sociopolitical climate. Everyone's so afraid of doing/saying anything about it, they're perpetually in a state of denial and regression. It's a recipe for a disaster waiting to happen.

Johan said...

Wow things must be really bad for the chinese heh..! But how come the STAR said the top 10 richest men in Malaysia are Chinese? These shows that the marginalisation policy is successful..marginalised the Chinese until they owned 80 % of the wealth.

Or are you fook one of the losers..you should ask Robert Kuok the richest man 20 billion or Ananda 20 billion or YTL 5 billion Goh Tong 10billion ..heck you can google them up...

Fancy you coming up with all those statistics...the important one you don't know. It shows your statistic are made up. As a typical lying greedy chinese you purposely didnt say who the 10 richest men in malaysia do you. Or how about the 100 richest men?

mark said...

I appears that it's their fault for working their asses off when some other don't. Does everyone really want equality? I think not. It's just we don't want shackles around our ankles. Meritocracy anyone? We can't blame people for going after what they want but we can question those that try to prevent them from getting what they want.

MyRAWK ADMIN said...

The owner of the blog said he has no way to verify the figures / stats, so take it with a pinch of salt. Greedy or not, i'm a chinese who is struggling and working hard to earn a living.

Adam: Fer Fook's Sake welcomes you to this discussion. We are all fer freedom of speech / expression.
Just to make sure you do realise that this "loser" did make it very clear I had no way of verifying stats & have posted list verbatim fer discussion.
Secondly, dude, you keep harping on Chinese wealth, what about Indian poverty? Or is this IRRELEVANT?
U also make no attempt to answer any of the list's queries - why do non-Bumis have to submit 30% of their business to YOU? How is that fair/just/equitable?
How about straight A students denied entry to local Us - again, not all non-Bumis are fooking loaded like Uncle Lim or Bob Kouk, y'know. That is akin to saying just because Daim is fooking rich so are all Melayus. Mana logic?
Last but not least, Fer Fook's Sake has repeatedly stated it is in FAVOUR of the NEP if it truly helps underpriviliged Bumis rather than lining the pockets of the rich (are u one of them?).
PS: U have a point about the Chinese (majority, anyways) who are only interested in making fooking money. Yes, it is that blinkered attitude that has led to the current scenario where they are increasingly marginalised. On the other hand, someone's gotta keep the economy ALIVE (& it ain't u!) . . .
Selamat berpuasa, En Adam.

There are lies & then there are statistics. It's obvious Encik Adam indulges in selective reading of the original posting like a Home Ministry censor. I shall not give credence to any of his racist inspired rants as its already been mentioned that the stats given could not be verified but I do believe some of the comments made are from personal experience.

Sometimes certain decisions made gives rise to a perceived sense of racism but how & why did the perception arise in the 1st place?

Why can't the Malays compete on a level playing field? Bob Kuok, Uncle Lim & Ananda 'Maxis' Krishnan MAY control quite a fair bit of the wealth but there's no shortage of the Tun Daim's, Halim Saad's or Tan Sri Mokhtar Al-Bukhary either. Some of these people, be they Melayu, Cina or India, may have got a leg up through family or political connections but don't forget the bigger majority of non-Bumis are where they are today not because of any preferential treatment, subsidies or any form of affirmative action but through sheer hardwork, intelligence & guts.

If you can only compete with others on your own turf knowing that there's a failsafe safety net should anything go wrong, then how would you be able to compete anywhere else. All you are left with is just a regular Jaguh Kampung. Why walk with a crutch if you can use both your legs? I truly believe the NEP is so ingrained in the Malay psyche now that it tends to hold back rather than advance their position.

And another thing, though the talk now 50 years on from Merdeka is of a country about to explode from racial disintegration, I can proudly state with conviction that I have a fair few friends of various racial backgrounds (Malays included) who I know I can count on for help. Though we may not meet as often as we would like, we do keep in touch & are regulars at our CNY shindig sans Cina food as that's not my wife's forte but Malay & Indian. How many true non-Malay friends will you be inviting for your Hari Raya gathering En. Adam??

Kopite78 said...

There are good people and sad assholes in this world. That is what makes the world go round. Adam is obviously the latter.

Self centred and ignorant, he only sees what is presented to him. The success of the non-malays in this country is due solely to their own efforts. The success of the few malays is due to the help of the government and funds from taxes and epf contributed by the citizens of all races. For 50 years the malays have had handouts and still a large number of them are in poverty. Who's fault is that? The corrupted wankers in government, police force, judiciary etc are raping this country financially and morally.

Adam, when the non-malays who have done nothing but love this country and tolerated the discrimination policies for the past 50 years start to ask for more equality, you start attacking us. When in actual fact you should look in the mirror and ask yourself what you and your government have done for the malays in poverty?

i am sincere as i type something here.

malacca sultanate lasted only for few good years. and we all know the colonialists ruled this land for nearly 500 years.

we are on our 50th merdeka. the nation is still young. fifty and progressing.

i still believe, those europeans are still eyeing the loophole for them to stamp their 'i-am-your-master' authority in any way, at present and in the future.

i grew up in a mixed society. i didn't know anything about race when i was a kid. my first few weeks in standard one, my buddies were indians, chinese, serani and malays.

we sat, play and ate together.

i can recall, i had to keep reminding one of my chinese friends everyday to bring the ball for our kickabout in the morning before the school started.

and yes, occasionaly we - the indians, malays, chinese and serani boys, received VIP public-canning for being deaf and stubborn playing football early morning before school assembly.

fast forward many years later. i entered college, later then i realized about polarization and being judged which ethnic group you are from.

i admit there're imbalance for the non-malays as well as for the bumiputeras. i am aware at present, more and more people feels the sense of belonging is fading fast because of policies, systems, ill-treatment, political approach, etc etc.

i honestly believe we can work this out. i just hope in the next fifty or hundred or maybe 200 years, this country will become a great nation and so be it.

more and more people realize the importance of being earnest. i hope we always welcome a rationale discussion from time to time.

some of us are too reliant on certain policies. yes it is obvious some are blinded, still holding on to the tongkats & wealth-gaining mentality and that trust has become a suspect.

malaysia is our country and we are malaysians. we can work it out.

the thing is ..

all i wanna say, hey .. i just wanna enjoy good football matches (bar chelsea long ball) with fellow friends on saturday nites without me feeling indifferent...hehehe. just kidding.

we can do something and it will take time. it's okay to be open and let's hope we can overcome uncertainties. i believe we will prevail.

you'll never walk alone

Dear En Shahrin: Point taken. All regular contributors here are fer a Bangsa M'sia. We are hoping fer a nation we can ALL be proud of. But it is made difficult when nazis like adam hold onto the misguided belief that this is Tanah Melayu & everyone else is here just to get rich. Such paranoia does exist.
To be a real patriot, we mustn't be afraid to question the status quo & challenge some old ideas esp when these ideas are outdated, outmoded & a hindrance to unity, progress & harmony fer the nation's citizens.
Change is a neccessity. Exclusionists social contracts which smacks of greed & racism must be eliminated at all costs.

En Shah : Kami sokong kata-kata kamu itu!!

I'm always pissed off when the word 'tolerate/tolerance' is used to describe race relations in this country. Here's the Oxford definition of the word 'tolerate': 1 allow (something that one dislikes or disagrees with) to exist or occur without interference. 2 patiently endure (something unpleasant).

Yes, there's no denying the fact that my forefathers originated from somewhere else. But this country was not built by the efforts of any one race alone. Both my parents & my siblings were born here and I truly would be totally uncomfortable & out of place if I was to be China, even for a visit.

So if after all these years, our presence here is merely tolerated, then we're only slightly better off than the recent pekerja/pendatang asing. It would seem then that one day when we're no longer tolerated, would there be an Auschwitz set up for us?? I shudder to think....

I don't want to be known as a Chinese Malaysian or Malaysian Chinese. I am a Malaysian - period. Your skin color can be pink or green for all i care as long as you're born a Malaysian. ;0)

I certainly don't support the current government.

It's at the point where any members of the UMNO bandwagon can say anything without fear of repercussion.

Malaysia as a whole is at major crossroads in choosing the right government to lead without bringing in race or religion.

We cannot have the mufti threatening another riot or hishamudin threatening to bathe the keris with chinese blood!

Is this really tolerance??
