Dream Cars

I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to be able to afford some of me very own dream machines (though not of the super-expensive luxury variety). Always wanted a Beetle, and me very first car when I started working was a Bug. Me & me mates had plenty of drunken, rowdy adventures in that bright red Buggy, that is, until I fooking wrecked it.

Also been a fan of the Mini ever since I was captivated by the very chic & urban looking Clubman when I was a wee lad. Kept bugging me dad to buy one as a family car but me dad thought they were rubbish cars ("too low, too small & too unconfortable"). So he told me that I had to fooking wait till I was old enough to buy me own wheels. And that's exactly what I did. I now own two models - the Austin MkIII (1973) version was originally bought with a 1275 GT engine but is now in the care of my sibling who has put in quite a few nice touches to it; and me pride & joy the Austin MkI (1965) which is almost 99% original. (Sorry, don't have a digital camera or a scanner to download some pix here - will do so in future).

So it fills with great pride that this humble small car had managed to make it onto Jeremy Clarkson's top 10 of the all time greats. Whatever you may say bout JC, he & his chums make Top Gear the absolute BEST motoring programme on the telly (NTV7, Sun 3pm). Funny, irreverent & downright rude at times, Top Gear manages to capture the very zeitgeist of the infantile male psyche - fast cars & a penchant fer fooking destroying stuff! (see what happens to the Kelisa below & you'll see what I mean. Ha ha!)

So fer you viewing pleasure, here are the videos (above, in two parts) of Jeremy Clarkson top 10 greatest road machines. (note Brit-ccentric bias with complete shut out of Jap cars!)

WARNING: Please have kleenex on stand by to wipe drool, especially with regards to numero uno.

PS: Bernard & wifey - make sure you check out no9; you'll love this bit.

senorita: haiyo, so booooring la BMW. U mean u didn't like the E-type? Quite possibly the sexiest car ever made. . .

BMW does not stand for 'Bayerische Motoren Werke' but 'BORING Motor Works'.

Kopite78 sure gonna disagree with us!

The Aston Martin was pretty cool as well though it was the old model (the new ones are even nicer).

But the E-type is just plain fooking gorgeous eventhough its 50 years old!

the Jarguar? okay la...... of course,no doubt it's nice... still like no.10 and new Aston.. =)

BMW is soooo blase la. I blame the fooking yuppies in the 80s fer destroying the marque's street cred.

But their cars have been quite boring aesthetically fer awhile. The Chris Bangles revolution seem to upset everyone & only the z series looks good with his angular lines. But that's just me opinion.

Oh!!! Senorita!!! You are my kinda girl. You've got taste in cars. More than I can say for some other people.

I'd love to give you a ride in my Black Magic Woman 525i anytime.

Welcome back, kopite78. U better not be referring to me about having no tatse in cars, ah mr I-need-4-fooking-doors-practical-saloon!!!

See you didn't join the Anfield debate above regarding our loss of form & did you watch the videos?

4 door saloon with a touch of class and prestige is okay what....... plus,it does not lack in power... =P

Practical?? My Naza Ria is practical, a Volvo is practical...but not the lumbering BMW lorry passing off as a saloon!

Kopite78: suggest you go get the German Mini in the mean time & once my Mini's makeover is done, we'll re-run the Top Gear scene. Hmmm...must ask Wong if he can rustle up a tractor....

I never said anything was wrong with PRACTICAL 4 door saloons. I just find it incredibly irritating that seems to be the only criterion many M'sians buy their cars.

Fook practicality! Gaya mesti ada!

It is this "practical" mentality that has led to our roads filled with shite cars & mini fooking vans that lack character, aesthetic value & SOUL!

Unlike other countries with a real passion fer motoring, you do not get as many MGs, Alfas, or great hot hatches such as Seat doing the rounds here.

There is no real classic car following except fer a handful of rich Datos & some very passionate guys.

And every Tan, Din & Hari seem to own (or want) a Beemer as it is a status symbol. Sorry, Kopite78 & senorita. . .

PS: Bernard - Kopite78 will NEVER BUY a cool car like the new Mini coz it ain't PRACTICAL!

ooh uh... i like the Beemer's design wor.... M3 and of course,Z series...

but as for gaya, erm,i like Dodge Viper,RX7 and 350z... dunno much about new sports cars.. havent been reading abt cars for a while

senorita: I know you are into cars, that's why I was a bit surprised you voted fer the Beemer when there were some pretty serious automobiles on show - eg porche 911 GT?

Yes, I know bout yer Dodge Viper fan. The 350Z is one of the nicest Jap sports cars ever & is a fine addition to that lineage. The Rx7 is pretty nigty as well.

But like I said, everything pales in comparison to the E-type. Fooking epitome of cool.

senorita.. said...

ya,911 is super duper desirable... but,i'm still into the beemer. don't ask me why...

sometimes love at 1st sight is just hard to explain..

besides,diff. people diff. taste ma....

Granted, I'll give you that much bout differing tastes. But like I said, too many people (wankers?) are beemer fans. U seem to know yer cars, so I'll respect yer decision bout the M3/M5.

But fer such a famour car maker, they haven't produced that many classics - the first 6 series (ie the batmobile) & perhaps the old single round light 3-series.

Compare to the BANKRUPT behemoth that was Rover - it had MG, Triumph, Mini & Range Rover under its belt. Talk bout seriously cool cars. No wonder BMW bought the company!!!

phew... luckily i'm not a guy.. so that makes me not one of those wankers.. ha ha
