I, Malaysian?

About 20 years ago, I recall a family friend telling us how he had spent a fortune buying land in India & was building some houses there. He said it was fer the future so that he and more importantly his children would have somewhere to go. Perplexed by what he meant, I asked "Uncle, why would you want to move from here to India?"

"In this country we are a minority. You just never know when the majority will insist that everyone become Abdullah," reasoned Paranoid Uncle. I thought what an illogical thing to say. "This is Malaysia - peaceful & harmonious with freedom of religion fer all," I thought to meself; the scenario Paranoid Uncle described would never happen . . . not here.

Forward two decades & it would appear Paranoid Uncle isn't too far off the mark. Please follow link below to see a short documentary claiming that that scenario has already happened.

Now, this short film (Malaysia - At The Crossroads - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9zmRMoDt58 ) has been around fer quite some time. But the issues within remain hot topics as far as many Malaysians are concerned. If you are of a "sensitive"disposition or lack sufficient grey matter to hear out reasonably articulated views; do NOT watch it & please fooking piss off, you're in the wrong blog.

However, if you are concerned citizen of this nation, I urge you to view this short documentary. Fer those of you who still think Malaysia is paradise on earth (or in space?), please watch the vid & do think about the many questions it poses.

Fer starters, how can any Malaysian, especially non-bumis, NOT be angry after watching the vid? Those of you who say we are not being marginalised, please tell it to the grieving Hindu widow. As the film says, it was a show of power from the Muslim authorities to deny a national hero the proper last rites. This also proves it is incomprehensible that a non-Muslim could ever be viewed as a national hero in this land. And even our "astronaut" has been elevated to bringing pride to Muslims everywhere but lest we forget, all Malaysians had to fooking foot the massive bill. Go figure. I suppose serve all those stupid wankers who thought it a brilliant idea & believe me there are plenty!

Mob mentality rules here. Everything is an "insult to Islam". Article 11 meetings have been disrupted by the Mat "Osama is our hero" Jangguts. And their actions have been validated by our dear smiley, friendly, sleepy PM.

Listening to the mufti of Perak just fooking makes me blood boil as he openly says we risk "racial conflict" if we "disturb Islam". He goes on to contend that in this country the Chinese & the Indians "bully the Malays" as they are the rich & powerful in Malaysia. What fooking bollocks?!? What the fook is he talking about?!?

The unfortunate truth is too many Malaysians believe in the status quo while too many Malays actually believe we, the non-Bumis, are here to bully, colonise & enslave them! Even among the grumbling hordes in cyberspace I know of people have said they cannot be bothered to vote.

I said a long time ago during the previous administration's reign that the country will go down the toilet when someone else less powerful (& less intelligent) takes over from the Mighty Tun & fooking takes all the wrong/corrupt/chauvinistic practices as precedents set in fooking stone.

As fer all you teary-eyed nostalgists who wish the Mighty Tun was back in power, lest not forget, it was he who elevated the Syariah court to the position it is now. It is he who attempted to restrict the rights of non-Muslims to worship. It is he who fooking fooked up the fooking judiciary! It is he who put vanity projects & one-upsmanship as the yardstick to measure success (he builds twin fooking towers, current PM sends Dr Model into space). The list goes on . . .

Again, I stress although the language here might be a tad harsh, it is NO way meant to insult ANYONE'S religion. The comments are also NOT intended to be racist but merely reflective of the existing racist policies that have us living in fear. It is merely venting at the continuing marginalisation of people who have worked hard to make this country great & know of no other place as home . . .

PS: As usual all reasonably-minded Malaysians are invited to post their comments regarding the state of our beloved nation.

watched the video and honestly the narrator was slightly inaccurate. lets get this right, the reason why we are currently in this sad state of affairs has NOTHING to do with the religion. absolutely NOTHING. its a melayu thing. and before anyone decides to become a bigot and brand me one, I declare that I am malay.

its how these so-called wankers who are purportedly going around under the banner of religion who are misleading the non-muslims into thinking that the religion has got anything to do with it. and i dont blame the non-muslims.

if u think this is new, try spending 4 years in UIA. me, a KL boy took about 6 months to adjust to life there, a life which was absolutely different from what i had led. less islamic than before? NOT A CHANCE.

i personally dont give two hoots about what the perak mufti said. its all part of some fooking agenda...and i am not part of it. i like malaysia the way it was, the one that i grew up in, when my circle of friends were multi racial, when i could call bernard cina loudly, call bala keling loudly (without even the slightest feeling of being racist...aku from penang la...keling is nothing) and they will return by calling me MELAYU even more loudly...all in good fun without getting personal...

i have always advocated for a time when we can call ourselves malaysian instead of referring to our respective races...but i guess there are some or many wankers out there..believe me from all races..dont want to see that happening...

Isa: Absolutely. As I have said before in me previous posting, I can count people from all races as close buddies.

Yes, I agree, its personal agendas & certain parties' political mileage that is ruining this country.

But the fact remains, religious bigitry is on the rise & the video in question highlights how much it has affected non-Muslims (like the widow in the docu & the prospect of losing her only daughter as well).

Hence the narrator was NOT inaccurate as these so-called fundamentalists & Malays supremacists act under the cloak of religion.

PS: hang Melayu ke? Thought you were Jepun?!?

Humans have been using religion as a smoke screen to wage wars for their own personal agendas for ages. No religion (except ajaran sesat lah) will require its followers to kill in the name of GOD. It's the interpretation of those supposedly holy men that is screwing up GOD's words.

I miss those good old days where things were so much clearer, simpler and the word "Malaysian" meant so much more to everyone. ;0(
How times have changed.

If there was one thing I liked about Broadwalk, it's that the group of us were truly multi-racial. As Isa said, we could call each other names that can be considered racist without feeling offended. Aside from Bernard being "Cina" and Bala being "keling", I believe we called Amrit "Bayi" numerous times as well. The thing is, it was all in good fun and we all took it rather lightly. Heck I sometimes make fun of the Chinese as well, and I am as Chinese as they come. The thing is when we sat down to talk, there was no race, no religion, we were just a group of individuals that got together for a common purpose, Liverpool Football Club! Initially anyway. Later on, we just met because we enjoyed each others company. It's sad that we don't see enough of this today.

I remember the times when we attended weddings and other social events. We were often the only multi-racial group. Anyone remember Baya's wedding? Here was a group of Chinamen, Indians and Malays dancing to Bangra tunes in front of the stage.

Perhaps it's because we all have a common denominator. Perhaps that's what all Malaysians need. Obviously the fact that we were all born and still live in the same country under the pretense that we are all truly "Malaysian" isn't enough. The question then becomes, what is that elusive common denominator?

jonC: Yes, but fer this wanker to say we are "bullying" the Malays, c'mon la . . .

mark: yup, u are right we need a common denominator. Unfortunately, the govt (& some M'sians short sighted) efforts have been the aforementioned vanity projects such as the twin towers, angksawan prog or worse, the world's largest Murtabak . . .

Yup, I do miss those weekly get togethers @ Broadwalk, especially now that I am FORCED to live a monk's life!

brother bala, the aussie narrator seems to equate muslims and malays. thats where it just aint quite right. whilst it may be the predominant view in this current climate, ITS WRONG. just becoz everyone assumes it doesnt make it right.. but to be fair to her, she's just reading her fooking script anyways...muslims are muslims, the indicator of their faith. malay is but just another race in this country. Surprisingly in this matter, I usually dont give a fook but this one aku memang naik angin. its those fookers who have this holier than thou attitude who are to blame..not the religion. MALAYS = MUSLIMS : wrong.

In fact,so many malay adat are actually inconsistent with islam but since malays practice it, non-muslims think that it is islamic. E.g bersanding, langkah bendul practice, asking for the heaven & earth for hantaran...but of course lah, since everyone pakai tudung, ada serban etc...ianya diterima...

This so-called wave currently gripping malays in this country is ARABISATION or MALAY-SISATION..or whatever you may wanna call it. For example, i have had numerous problems with the registration dept, immigration etc..WHY? my name got no "bin". My dad decided to bin it..hahahaha. BIN is just the arabic way of saying son of, so, no greater than a/l or s/o or d/o. WHY? becoz in arabic culture, to be called SON OF so & so, instead of your own name is the biggest accolade that can be afforded to a person.

By the way, my view is that those fookers who act under the cloak of religion, whichever religion, who act arbitrarily, unjustly and downright cruelly to others ought to be castrated. No offspring better...

As for me, my birth cert says I'm malay..cant complain there...half chinese and half mamak, DKK...wifey brings the only malay blood to the equation but only partial as she is also part japanese...so, kalau aku sensitive, u panggil i cina ka, keling ka, jepun ka, melayu ka..aku boleh marah beb...

Aiyah! Who "bullying" who now? En. Isa, relaks lar. We all are true Malaysian who can think for ourselves and not munch on the propaganda and be brain-washed to believe everything is rosy and sweet. Hope more will see the truth before the whole country kena turn terbalik!!!

anfield devotee said...

Isa: Exactly. Like I said in me posting as well as earlier comments, these fookers are acting under the guise of religious duty. BOLLOCKS TO THAT!

Is it possible you are Irish? Isa bin Keane? Ha ha . . . I know that sure get u marah !!!

i think there's a small community be it in blogsphere, broadwalk or whereever, where the concept of 'Malaysians' represents a harmonious multi-racial society. However only in our beloved Malaysia can the concept of race and religion mean the same. and by virtue of Article 153 / 160 of our Constitution, 'Malay' in a Malaysian context is defined as a Muslim Malaysian citizen born to another Malaysian citizen. so in other words, since my parents are Malaysian citizens, and should i wish to practice Islam, wouldn't that make me Malay?

I'm not being racist and you guys should know that I'm not one. But this master - people(slave) relationship does damper my spirit in believing that Malaysia is for Malaysians and not minus 'sians'.

For the record, i love this country and enjoyed my childhood. but the more i learn about our constitution, may 13, business privileges, AP, NEP, etc,etc... it does makes me wonder 'why' should i be a loyalist when the powers that be can say as they please in paliarment and abuse their rights.

I just conducted a course on Malaysian tax incentives etc, etc today... and explained the rationalisation of these incentives since the 1960s. Most of it was due to compete with Singapore. However i realised that we hardly achieved any targets since whereas Singapore has progressed by leaps and bounds. Now we complete with China (whom have just overtaken us)... even Vietnam is better than us. Aint that sad?

all i wanna say is that - dear powers that be - u fuckers suck! stop thinking of urself and ur birth rights and start fucking saving this country from self destruction.

Amen.

i think i shd blog about this meself.

slacker: yes, you should blog bout this & you should also register to vote.

If you think it won't make a difference & everyone pun sama attitude, how la like that?

Sad to say, with regards to saving the country it is as usual left to the Chinese & Indians - pay tax, work extra hard & keep the economy alive only to be treated as fooking second class citizens!

I had enough of watching on the sidelines, and finally registered my cinapek butt to vote. Just hope more will do the same, time to show people power!!!!
