Press-ing matters

Freedom of press? Fook that fer a laugh. In Malaysia, the media has become a fooking joke. How long do they expect us to keep believing their bullshit. Fer example, The Star on Sunday (allegedly) carried a poll of nearly 3,000 people. The findings:

* Over 90% of persons polled said they will vote indicating the biggest turnout for polls ever.
(ok, so far so good . . .)

* Majority of people polled said they still believed in BN & its ability to lead the nation
(here we go again . . .)

* Over 70% said they believed that MPs loved to serve the rakyat
(fooking hell, I feel nauseous!)

However, kudos must go to The Sun. Aside from being a FREE paper, it has made a real effort at genuine reporting. It was The Sun which broke the story on Zakaria's Mansion as well as the Port Klang Free Zone debacle. Worthy reporting in a country where the press is muzzled to the point of suffocation.

In view of the GE, it even dared to give some semblance of fairness. Unlike The Star or NST, The Sun actually carried a pix of the new, more consumer-friendly DAP logo. Lest we forget, not too long ago, this alone was enough fer the govt to revoke the licence & close down the press (as was the case during Operasi Lalang when The Star & various Chinese press was shut down . . . ARBITRARILY!).

Although there were the usual BN ads & front page coverage of the ruling party, you could sense this small paper trying to strive fer some sense of journalistic independence. Hence it had the balls to carry a story about PKR's Tian Chua who challenged BN's Lim Si Pin to a debate. It also carried 'Match Up' pieces where contesting candidates were given EQUAL say to present their views. What a refreshing change from the usual stink of bullshit of the other papers.

Column space was also dedicated to their own Terence Fernandez (Dep News editor) & Zainon Ahmad (Political Editor) whose comments suggest a bias towards the opposition.

So if you (or yer mates) have limited/no access to the internet, The Sun is yer best bet fer some decent news. Plus its FREE. Note, there will be a special GE editions of The Sun on 8th & 9th Mar. So please keep yerself informed & do utilise yer fooking right to VOTE!

ps: The Sun's coverage of the EPL is also second to none.

I don't suppose The Star quoted a source?

What amazes me is how they believe that by merely telling us that everything is peaches & cream, they really expect us to believe it.

bro, I have also just blogged about my disgust at the mainstream media!

To say they are fair is not even true! Yes they gave coverage to both the BN and Opposition. About BN is all good. About Opposition is all trouble. Even that, it's not equal share! There's like 10 pages of BN everyday and 2 pages of Opposition news!!!

It's so sick everyday when I open The Star Newspaper. No, even reading the headlines make me sick!

Good la they say 90% voting BN! Let's see if they achieve that 90% again which is very much due to a hope for change when Badawi took over. After the years of misery under him, let's wait and see la!

Oops my mistake! 90% voting! Emotional punya pasal la now after all the disappointment!

Hopefully the extra turnouts are people who vote for a change la! Maybe 10% of the 20% increase are phantom voters la!

This Government is so fooked up!

mark: Yup, the source is . . . themselves! Since they (allegedly) conducted the poll. What a load of fooking shite!

@dam: Hence that's why we should try to support The Sun which is trying to be as fair as possible given the circumstances.

Do check it out. I know fer a fact that there is a Penang edition.

The Sun was and still is a very good newspaper..i kind of remembered when it came out in 94'..the articles that they carried was truly interesting and i personally liked the music reviews was it on wednesday or thursday...atleast they carried some news abt metal..hard rock and non mainstream stuff.. sifu Balaji your reviews truly helped me out to checkout new albums and bands no kidding here ..being stranded in this god forsaken/desolate place pre internet era ..atleast i could keep in touch with the music i loved... nowdays like balaji said i just look forward to citizen nades..mr gomez and bob holmes articles..very good articles indeed...
i believe the front page publication of the assassination plot of Dr M n plus lawsuits took the paper down..from its peak...funny thing is that pre Op Lallang the Star paper was like the Sun..many articles they carried were critical of the government fer example our very own Bapa Malaysia rants against Dr M...
What an irony...

What goes around comes around. Dr M silenced the papers by closing em down & then getting the MC-fooking-A to buy The Star & other venarcular press.

Well, guess what, Dr M's wonderful handiwork means he now has no avenue to reach the greater public. He is now isolated. Well fooking done la, Dr M.

At least you got to see how yer vision of M'sia turned out - cronies, corruption & crap state-controlled media.

ps: Tq Anba fer reading me metal columns all them years ago. I know I have been saying I will do some reviews here; just don't seem to get round to it. Will do so once election over.

its good that we have the internet to even the things out, to counter report all the lies carried by MSM. but too bad the rural folks are fed with shits daily from the tv3 especially, the worst slut ever to lick them BN's asses.

Sadly a friend of ours is a sub-editor of the Star and believes that everything is true and that we do not know what we are talking about.

It is un-fookin-believable!!!!!!!!!!!

other than all the columnists that u've mentioned, there's one column called Citizen Nades that's good too..

i'm a fan of The Sun.. i dunno,it just seems more compact, nothing to fancy and real.

kopite78: what did you expect? Fer this fook head to suddenly see the light? Am truly ashemed to be associated with him. Really.

weiyin: At least we weren't complicit in dishing out the lies. We were in the Health, Property & Music sections wghich was only interested in making some money fer the paper!

kerp: But the internet has only 5% penetration in this country. Like you said, the masses has to rely on the crap from TV3 etc.

senorita: yup, citizen nades is the one who broke the Zakaria mansion story as well as the MPPJ billboard fer cash fiasco. Even with all this press reports in this paper, there are still some who think The Star is the gospel.

ahh, Bro, sorry bro, I don't read the papers anymore (but I do get their bullshit from the online version whenever I need to point out their lies!). If anything, the Sun was the last bastion of (very limited Free press) however, that too is gone (almost!) Berjaya took over and one the frist few weeks , during CNY TSVT invited members of the Editorial staff and offered them a big ang pow for 'a job well done'. During the dinner, he purportedly stressed that if they needed to print controversial stories, they could go directly to him for approval!!
FREE PRESS?????? Think again!

Oh...the bugs that I bought from Russia works really well....

ahh...sorry to bust the bubble!
I'm not sure if Nades is still there.
Last time we met, he was thinking of pulling the drapes!

Since the days of Ops Lalang, almost every newpaper publishes fiction, save and except the sports pages & the TV & Radio guide.

Well, they even tried to get to the sports pages, whenever there's some politicking in some association. i personally had to threaten a particular Star sports reporter about the shites that she was writing...hahaha, what is ISA without the aggro..?

I dont bother reading the front pages of newspapers anymore..if whatever rubbish they write about the opposition is true, they might as well abolish elections..no point...

Tony: yes, I heard about the takeover. But the few guys who tried ti make a difference are still there & perhaps, this GE is their version of Custer's Last Stand.

Still a lot better than the rest of the papers.

Isa: I had cancelled me subscription to the papers after the way they reported the Bersih rally. Fooked up!

So much for journalistic integrity or was it sold for a Datukship? You know who you are!

i particularly remember one entry from Citizen Nades where he highlighted all the money that seem to just disappear-money intended for a sport stadium or smth in UK.. and he wrote abt how the supposedly on-training team lived rather comfortably in UK... he makes ppl think...
