THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Bob Dylan sang this over four decades ago but its still ring true even here in the distant shores of Malaysia. The elections may be over but the winds of change continue to blow . . . HARD! Amidst the ever growing chorus of discontent within UMNO, Anwar & PKR is maneuvering fer his re-entry into the political arena.

Last nite in Kg Baru, the so-called 'Black 14' rally was held & 20,000 people turned up to hear him speak. It also marked the end of his five year ban on politics. Anwar is now free to stand fer elections (of course, any by-election can only be held six months after a GE, so he'll have to wait a while longer).

But me point is this. After the euphoria of a GE where many were satisfied with just denying BN a 2/3 majority (meself included), we are now hearing of substantial rumours that the Opposition is gearing fer a change in administration. There's all sorts of skulduggery with whispers of East Malaysian cospiracy and mass cross overs from UMNO.

Whatever it is, a 20,000 turn-up fer a rally in the heart of the city without the benefit of mainstream media publicity is no small feat. As you can see, many people are still hungry fer change.

Can it really happen? Is the current administration so fooked up that it is ready to crumble anytime now? Brothers & Sisters, these are exciting times indeed, Malaysia may be at the crossroads of its history. Where it turns is up to you. Fer those who still have NOT registered, please drop by yer nearest Post Office to do so (it'll take just 5 minutes). You never know which seat may be vacated & you'll be called upon to VOTE! Even with so many people unregistered, see what happened at the recently concluded elections. Think what can be achieved if EVERYONE were on the electoral list.
As usual, all of you are invited to share yer thoughts on this issue and whatever other rumours/hypothesis you may have on a possible transfer of power.

You're mistaken there dude, the EC vice chairman said he doesn't have to wait for 6 months. He can stand for any election tomorrow if he likes to. I say let the man RULES!

afif: No sir, what I meant is that a seat can only be contested six months AFTER a GE. Yes, Anwar is eligible as of today but election rules state a minimum period of six months must be observed before a by-election can be held.

And yes, me agrees with you with regards to letting him rule. Why not? He canna be worse than this stinking rotten pile of garbage that is BN.

I m all for change but please don get the notion that Anwar is the cure for all ills in Malaysia. When he was in power, he did not do anything to change BN as it is.

If prehistoric laws like the ISA, OSA, Printing and publication laws(I think) r not abolished, anyone in power wld use it to stay in power.

I personally wld prefer to see how the 4 opposition won states perform first.

lim: Most definitely. In fact, the first thing the Opposition need to do if it comes into power is to repeal all those draconiam laws which they have been at the receiving end of.

Also put the judiciary in order. Allow fer a free press.

And while I do not see Anwar as a cure all, at least he was able to reach out to the general populace. Something the wankers in BN with all their propaganda & govt machinery failed to do. They were still saying WE should be THANKFUL fer the fooking great job BN is doing! Fook off!

i think they are very much in a mess, them amno flers. we've heard grouses from the grassroots and with many of the state chairmen are pressured into letting it known to the highest guy, he may crack and crumble.

but i dont quite agree with this business of crossing over la. some ofcos were chose for their individual capabilities but some won bcos the voters picked them based on the Party he rep for.

kerp: Regarding crossovers. Yes it is not acceptable but it is quite the norm here. Besides, BN has long used dirty tactics to get MPs to change sides. Bout time they had a dose of theor own medicine.

All of a sudden, these frustrated UMNO flers are coming out of the closet n making their voices heard. When the fooker PM was in almost 100% control, they had no fooking balls to even make a squeak!

Kerp : Agree w u on the crossing over bit. Wouldn't want all these two-faced reps in the ruling party no more!

AD : Read reports today that Rafa's big target next season is Gareth Barry! Is it the end of Alonso?

lim: Lalang . . . a very Malaysian trait (also see Man U & Chelsea fans) . . .

RE: Gareth Barry - along with other target David Bentley. Indication that perhaps Rafa realises an English core will be needed fer a sustained push on the league (eg see scum - 6 englanders & chelsea - 4).

AD : didn't we use to have that with David James, Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Redknapp n d man Stan Collymore(aka Spice Boys)?
Didn't really work with that bunch huh?

times are indeed changing. but i think it's moving in the right direction. my hope is that it will stay on course for a two-party democracy.

anwar. he has been much maligned for the time when he was in power. lim keng yaik criticised him when he was the education minister. but we need to remember that he was a BN cabinet minister, not a free agent. so whatever he did or didn't do happened under the BN banner. which really goes to show just how fair the BN government has been.

i just see him as an important figure at this point in time. for his ability to pull things together. lets see how far we can go with this.

but like you said, at the end of the day we get the Government we deserve and we should just get registered if we havent done so already.

great post btw.

nick: Let's hope more of the people we know get off their backsides & register!

Lim: Point taken. But do you really think Aurelio or Aberloa are better players than local boy Stephen warnock. Who do you think will do better if given time to grow in the first team?

Isa: Little too late dontcha think? Careful he doesn't poison y'all la!

Ha ha! Dah kalah teruk baru nak listen to the Bar Council. Dulu?

Fook him la

ps: The way things are going, its not players we should be looking at but new gaffer!

Isa : Pls brief us on yr meet with d PM. It shd b interesting. He better have some smart answers this time cos I m sure he will b grilled if there is a Q & A session!
Nick M : Agree w u on him being an important figure at the mo. Sort of a rallying point or the glue to hold the opposition alliance together. If he does get into power, let's hope he practices what he preaches!
AD : If we get a new gaffer now, our hopes for the league will prob have to wait another 2 yrs with more new players coming in. I say we shd sort out the damn boardroom problems immediately, give Rafa the money to buy more quality players to support El Nino n Gerrard n go all out next yr for the title! If it still fails, then fook rotation n Rafa!
