Follow thy left hand path (Entombed: Left Hand Path)

No a single fooking dud track in sight! From the man screaming into the abyss intro to the last fuzzed out turbo-charged riff, Left Hand Path fooking ticks all the correct boxes fer classic status. Me knows 'classic' is an oft used & abused word but this album has stood the fooking test of time. Me considers this album part of the (un)holy triumvirate of death metal albums - the other two being Morbid Angel's Blessed Are The Sick & Obituary's Cause of Death. These three albums still manage to sound fresh, dangerous, ground-breaking & fooking evil today despite being released almost two decades ago.

Released in 1990, Entombed's debut introduced the world to the fat, fuzzy guitar sound that has come to be known as the Gothenburg sound courtesy of some deft production by Tomas Skorsberg at the (now legendary) Sunlight Studios. Although Entombed later softened their sound to what has become known as 'death roll', the first three LPs & in particular Left Hand Path, is a slice of death metal nirvana.

Wow. Im speechless man... Remember listening to this album for the first time like it was yesterday. I was at a fren's music shop back in JB after school and I was goin thru some cassettes - Sodom, Pestilence, Cadaver and finally decided on Entombed because they had a far more kick ass evil looking album cover art work :) So as usual after that I would walk over to the counter and demand that my fren in the Deicide shirt 'test power' the album. Imagine the looks on the faces of the other customers when the speakers suddenly changed from Bobby Brown's corny 'smooth' rappin vomiting screams from bowels of hell... I was sold and the rest is history!

Here are some more links worth checking out from the ever intriguing Deciblog http://www.thedeciblog.com/

premo: Yeah man. Me remembers buying this from a record store that gave discounts on new releases. So me took the chance since it was a Earache release & the vinyl was a limited edition of "red & white splatter".
Went home, drop the stylus on the record & the "aaaaaaaaaaaarggggh" bit started & THEN . . .!

One of me fave LPs of ALL time. Fooking awesome shit.

Funnily me forgot to insert this in the top5 debuts posting. Hmmmmm . . .

tastes vary. there is utter godawful crapslug, then we have along the spectrum - good stuff; and then
we have the
spasm inducing fizzle-ma-drizzle great stuff.

as an analogous comparison, tits are goods stuff. one of mamarri-cal(?) proprotions, not really (hmm..then again). but a pair that is bright and perky between the 36-38 bandwith, alright. but beggars like me, we just can't goddamn be choosy can we now...don't you just hate fridays, especially the hours are soldering you ears over yer head.bluearghghghghhgh

and now fer the LP, great music (for me) has 2 pertinent qualities - either/or:-
a) its too simple to sound that good; OR
b) it's so unique and away from the numbers, that whenever you plug it in you know it's them playing. the sounds leaves a fracture in your head.

tuan balRIC - 2 words (if they can qualify as words).

phEEEEEEEWWW-WEEEEEETTT; &
FUHLAYYYYMAKKKKK. dude, this is probably something we can actually refer to as death metal yang
mengasyikkan :))) easily one of THE death LPs of all time. brought tears to me eyes this. funnily enough i got of the back-end - i.e. off clandestine first.

tuan kerpRIC: i've got a confession to make regarding the term "ameno". honestly when i first saw it over at LGL, i thought..oh shit..wenger has done it again, which corner of spain/italy or france/spain border did he got to unearth this new spanish sounding talent la..mWHAHAHHAHAHHA. oh btw today is unbound day innit? :)))

tuan premo: bro, me sold too:)

tuan balric: dude, still shellshocked seeing/hearing repulsion. susah giler nak dapat tu. thanks :)))

anba: Though me have quite a few deicide albums in me collection, me never quite got into it. Maybe will give Legion another go. Back then it was just like a piss poor attempt to out-thrash/speed Reign In Blood.

Me likes Blessed Are The Sick compared to all the other Morbid Angel LPs is coz that album has a unique organic sound/feel to it. Plus they slowed procweedings down to give the album plenty of space to breathe. To think this was a mere collection of out takes!

And yes, that brings me to Obituary which is one of me fave bands. Love Slowly We Rot but Cause of Death wins it fer me coz of the continuing sound effects gave the album a complete feel. Also note James Murphy's fabulous fretwork on that album. Perhaps it was due to the fact me was lucky enough to see them play live in a tiny cramped rock club during the cause of Death tour. Sorry, have to brag sikit here la, even got to meet the band & got me LP signed!

But always good to see what others have to say about their what their defining albums are. Look forward to reading more of yer thoughts on future metal postings.

Moz: Watch this space fer more stuff! And yes, this is possibly one of the greatest death metal albums of all time.
Me burned an extra copy fer me wifey's car so she can see what the fuss is all about. Rite now her daily commute to work is being soundtracked by Satryicon!

Janji cuba, mr achilles. Fact is still worth downloading as you never now when you might come around. Plus yer wifey might enjoy this classic. After all, damn mahal & susah to find.

The production quality on this LP is fab (not evident on video). Sound of all instruments are given a well rounded tubby fuzz which was unique to Entombed before Dismember & At The Gates also co-opted the Sunlight Studio sound.
