Footie Banter

"We gotta hit the ground running". . . "We've got the most feared strike partnership in the league" . . . "Rafa will deliver no19 fer sure". . .

These are just some of the oft-heard sentiments among Kopites before the start of the league. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. A truly awful stalemate against Standard Liege & a lacklustre display v Sunderland underlines just how far we are behind our rivals.

Sorry, me knows it early days yet, but shit, no Kopite can tell me s/he wasn't a touch disappointed by the new no7's display. Fook, all he did was get in the way of Torres scoring! The rest . . . well, wasn't much better was it? Hyppia anyone?

Couple that with our OBVIOUS lack of width, looks like another season of tussling with the other also rans fer that coveted fourth fooking spot just to ensure financial survival.

Plus the fact that the fooking Yanks who still own the club aren't exactly pally wally & Rafa himself canna see eye to eye with that fookhead with a perm, Rick Fooking Parry. Don't bode well fer any sort of title challenge.

Yes, yes, me is a whiny, pessimistic bitch. The 19 years of nothingness kinds of does that to you. Sucks to be a Kopite, but hey, could be worse . . . imagine being a fooking City or Spurs fan . . .

ps: The three points, though, much appreciated shouldn't disguise the fact that we are still some way off from being genuine title challengers.

pps: Of course, look forward to reading what other genuine fans think about the new season & yer aspirations of course.

the season has started!

hahaha....and we are all not too happy, are we?

well, at least 3 points in the bag...

at least man utd got 1 point only...

now all the pundits are raving about Chelsea after their 4-0 win over portsmouth...probably due to the Scolari factor....a manager that has yet to win anything...hmmm...well, he is good anyway...so we'll see...

as for Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal....pundits are bashing them like shit...

is this the verdict we wanna put on the teams after just 1 game? then let's say Bolton will secure a champions league place ffs!!!

i am just looking forward to enjoy the season! it's only one game and although didn't perform well, 3 points is the max! so, be glad i guess!....though we don't want to say the same too often about the performance! hehehe...

i believe the Gunners worldwide shares the same sentiment as you guys now. sure 3 points already in the bag but judging by the first game, arsenal are simply not good enough to challenge for the title. no disrespect to West Brom, but the lads should win by a bigger margin. too bad, they were siimply pathetic. worrying times ahead...

I just hope lady luck smiles on us for the entire season. I will not mind if they continue to play like that as long as we churn out the results

@dam: Welcome back, long time no see.

Am sure you've been a Kopite long enough to know quality from shite. And while we may not be complete shite, we aren't exactly Harlem Globe Trotters of footie either.

Am not just basing me opinions on the first match alone, rather it underlines what many seem to think. We lack width & have been fer quite a long time now. Though we may have Beijing Babel on the left, Pennant doesn't just quite cut it & wonder why Rafa didn't go after Bentley instead of wooing Barry.

Rafa's decision making process is still a mystery to all. Why leave the much-missed Agger out? Carra & Hyppia just canna play a decent ball out of defence. Its all square passes & it was telling especially during the first half.

As fer giving the youngsters a run to groom them ie Plessis et al - you don't do it during yer first game of the season at a much improved Sunderland. Conventional wisdom is fer you to start with the strongest team & when/if you are leading by a couple of goals, start pulling in the changes.

As fer the scum only picking up one point, well, those fookers are confident they have the quality to put together a strong run later to win it like last season (after a very poor start). We severely LACK that confidence.

Anyways, hope to see ya more foten in these parts. Take care!

Kerp: Alonso the missing link?

Kopite78: You know as well as anyone that ain't gonna happen, so why even mention it?

fab was missing la boss. but there's a possibility it could be alonso that monssiur wenger is targeting, hoping to bring him in before the champs league 2nd leg qualifying next week.

kerp: didn't watch the chelsea mauling of pompey but reports indicate a swagger that has been missing from the fooking Bridge all this while.

As fer tuan @dam's contention Senor Scolari hasn't won anything, he has won the Copa Libertadores
twice & there's the small matter of the world cup . . .

Me thinks it'll be between the scum & chelskis again this year.

You have every right to be pessimistic and bitchy after the last two performances my man. Can't agree with you more. Its just been too long hasn't it? But really glad we got off to a winning start at least. An away win after a CL game can't be bad. Bless El Ninos fine feet.

And yes, our new No.7's game play is quite worrying. After observing ing him in pre-season till now, i sense he's finding it a little tougher the he'd have expected for all his experience. Maybe early days yet but his positional sense at least should be encouraging. Anyways having said that, I think he'll come good soon.

Wonder why Rafa started with Plessis as well. Weird. The fler looks awkward and unassertive in the middle. Not the kind of player you'd want to have sit in front of the back-four against a Roy Keane selection. After Alonso's introduction, the game turned a bit (Really hope LFC doesn't let him go). Love this bugger. As for Agger's omission, surprising yes, but i guess the gaffer feels he's just not match-fit enough yet. He was quite dissapointing at Liege. Then again, the whole team didn't turn up did they? Fook...

Agree, I too keep worrying about our width. Babel is as close to an out-and-out wideman as we've got and even then he loves cutting in all the time. Not much of a difference to Benayoun and Kuyt. We're just too predictable going wide and thats simply not good. I'm baffled Rafa didn't try to sign a much needed winger at least.

Would be happy with 1 nils all season but really... Yup, uh huh, United and Chelsea definitely up there again. Quality eventually tells... always. Ah well, another anxious season yet.

kevin: The fact that Bentley was available fer the same price we are prepared to pay fer Barry speaks volume about Rafa's vision fer the team.

If we do get Barry, we will have Mascherano, Leiva & Alonso as holding midfielders. Whereas the right wing is odwn to Pennant.

If that's not an unbalanced side, me don't know what is.

Akuani: Beating Lin Dan at kampong near impossible lar . . .Still well done fer silver.
